Now that's what you call a problem for an incumbent. Of course, it's frustrating that this bully even gets in the double digits.

It’s actually amazing he’s in such big trouble. He’s been untouchable in the past, has the NRA endorsement, lies constantly to pretend he’s a moderate, and deserves to finally lose.

I don’t think Detroit or at least much of it is in this district. The poll only had 300 people interviewed. But, on the other hand another poll supposedly showed Dingell ahead by only four.

Race within the margin, but “Dean of the House” behind

LANSING, Mich. — In what is perceived as an anti-incumbent year, Congressman John Dingell (D-MI) – the longest-serving member of the U.S. House of Representatives – slightly trails his Republican opponent Rob Steele. A new, independent poll shows 43.8 percent choosing Steele, 39.5 percent Dingell, 11 percent undecided, and the other candidates splitting up the rest.

“With more than 50 years of service in Congress, Dingell may be the poster boy for many dissatisfied voters who are gunning for incumbents this year,” said Kelly Rossman-McKinney, CEO and founder of The Rossman Group which conducted the survey in partnership with Team TelCom. “The ‘Dean of the House’ will be tough to beat, but these numbers show that at this point, even The Dean is not immune to the anger that is brewing with the electorate.”

Dingell and Steele both carry about three quarters of their respective party supporters, but Dingell trails 31.7 percent to fifty percent amongst Independent voters and by nearly 80 points amongst those who consider themselves Tea Party supporters. Steele is ahead 46.7 percent to 37.9 percent amongst voters 65 and older, and the only age group Dingell leads in is the 30-45 category. Men prefer Steele by a 54.4 to 31.6 margin, while women choose Dingell 46.9 to 33.8 percent.

The automated poll, conducted October 4, surveyed 400 likely voters in Michigan’s 15th Congressional District on the contest and has a margin of error of +/- 5.6%. The weekly survey of 400 likely voters statewide on Michigan’s races for Governor, Secretary of State, and Attorney General was also conducted on October 4th. The results of the questions on statewide races are attached and charts showing the progress over the last several weeks are attached:

Republicans continue to hold considerable leads in all of the statewide races, as has been the case since the weekly polling began over six weeks ago. One trend to monitor in the Governor’s race is that this week’s results are the third in a row where there has been a slight uptick in the number of undecideds and small drop in support for Snyder, however, Bernero does not appear to be benefiting directly from this subtle movement since he remains hovering at 30 percent.

“The flood of ads Democrats have tried to dump into this race to prop up Bernero may be having a tiny effect, but is it enough and is there enough time for them to decide it’s worth staying the course?,” said Rossman-McKinney. “Considering the static nature of the Secretary of State and Attorney General numbers, Democrats will need to pour a lot of resources into these races if they hope to use them as a “firewall” as many observers expect.”

Google the district, MI-15. it is "L" shaped. Ann-Arbor and North of it, then south in the Farming area's south of Ann-Arbor then east and up to Dearborn. Jerry-mandered to be Dem safe. Don't bring race into it, it is probably more diverse than you realize and doesn't really grab Detroit proper...

If Dingell is down 4 in Detroit, DETROIT FOR CHRISSAKES, is a Dem truly safe anywhere???

The Dingell family has held the Congressional seat in southeastern Michigan for nearly eight decades.  Rep. John Dingell, now the longest-serving member of Congress, inherited the seat in 1955 when his father died after 23 years in office. The seat has been a family preserve since the dawn of the New Deal.

That's appropriate given that Mr. Dingell has been a cheerleader for big-spending programs and universal health care throughout his career. But even in a district that includes the liberal bastion of Ann Arbor, home to the University of Michigan, this may not be the best year for an 84-year-old incumbent to be running on a pro-Big Government record.

Mr. Dingell's Republican opponent is Ann Arbor cardiologist Rob Steele, who says he decided to run after Mr. Dingell helped ram through "insane spending" programs that passed with many House members not even reading the bills. A poll commissioned by Mr. Steele shows Mr. Dingell potentially vulnerable. A more recent poll by the Detroit News shows Mr. Dingell with a healthy lead, but many voters remain undecided.      

LET'S HELP THEM DECIDE.

It’s not “Detroit proper” at all ...I live in MI 15...it runs from the Ohio State line north and includes only part of Detroit.

I’m glad to see Dingell is struggling...but this headline paints a VERY inaccurate picture

He’ll still win. In the Detroit Metro area they spot the Dems 5 - 10% off the bat from voter “irregularities”.

There were a number of precincts in the area that showed over 105% voter turnout. How? No one seems to know.

A PHYSICIAN’S CONCERNS

• The biggest problem he sees is with “waste in the nation’s health care system.”

• Believes health care reform is urgent because of Medicare as “more and more physicians are not participating in Medicare.”

• A big budget concern is the new means of recording and sharing information gathered about patients.

• Keeping electronic records has cost millions of dollars at his multiple-office practice and also has slowed productivity.

• What was written in 2,700 pages should be consolidated to 27 pages, he said.

• Insurance plans will need to meet a certain criteria, which would raise the cost of the new health care.

Look at his recent pictures. He looks like the Crypt Keeper. Maybe, just maybe, his district wants someone who is actually going to do something and not an elderly placeholder who is way past his prime and needs to retire. Then again, history is replete with examples of voters voting in doddering old fools simply because they've been there forever (see: Byrd).

As one may recall, it was in Detroit in a recent national election that registered Republican voters were blocked from entering the polling place. They were finally allowed to enter after the intervention of lawyers and law enforcement officials.

One poll and 4 points don’t mean anything here.

My concern is just how strong ACORN is in Detroit. There will be massive voter fraud. A poll can only be answered once. A vote can be counted numerous times.
