By Attacking the Chamber of Commerce, Obama Attacks Small Businesses
Right Across the Atlantic ^ | 10/12/2010 | Michael Merritt

Last week, President Obama called out the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, accusing it of funneling contributions to the business advocacy group from foreign corporations to its U.S. political activity. This, of course, ignited a political firestorm.

The left had a “eureka!” moment. After all, American typically don’t like foreign actors meddling in their elections. Surely foreign corporations should have no say in who Americans elect? The right, meanwhile, responded in disgust. Today, Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey described the allegations on the Chamber as a form of McCarthyism.

I have to side with Ed. The President and his cohorts expect the Chamber to prove that they’re not using foreign money to fund lobbying and other activity. However, the onus is not on the accused, but on the accuser, to prove the allegations. That’s how the justice system works. Innocent until proven guilty. Anything else is making baseless accusations in hopes of shaming a good organization out of legitimate activities. It’s actually more like the mafia, which is saying something, given where Obama hails from.

That said, I think everybody – liberals and conservatives, the new media and the old – is focusing too much on this foreign money issue. While it is seriously concerning, I think that it’s a relatively small issue in the grand scheme of things. Let’s focus on the big picture here. This attack on the Chamber is an attack on businesses as a whole. It’s not just about big businesses, as we’re used to hearing from Democrats. This is an attack on small businesses.

Just like the journolisters being ready to falsely attach a smear of racism to anyone of opposing views when they think it might be helpful, the Obama crew have no qualms falsely charging the CofC, thinking it’ll silence other business-linked donors at the same time that it’ll give them a big smear-able target nationwide.

This is a sick and dangerous political group we have at the levers of a big and dangerous federal government.

It isn’t just Obama or the Chamber.

BIG BUSINESS has been in bed with Obama, Bush, Dems and Reps pushing the Consumer Product Child Safety Act, Obamacare (from which they are being exempted), including the 1099 fiasco, and the proposed Pure Food Act to deliberately put small business out of business.

But with small business out of the way, socializing BIG BUSINESS into giant collectives is a simple matter. (essentially run by the same fat cats who run them now, but as commisars rather than capitalists)

Barry and the Congressional Dems will do anything to divert attention from the total failure of their legislation to do anything about the record unemployment in this country. Barry and Axelrods’ latest teleprompter ruminations only serve to show how out of touch they are.

“President Obama called out the U.S. Chamber of Commerce”

Before the surface of this is even scratched, it appears on its face to be as unAmerican as a POTUS can be.

The US Chamber of Commmerce is a tool of the United Nations. It is not a 'friend' of small business

Mike I decided to rejoin the US Chamber today. They are doing the work for the US business community.

Its about time somebody becomes an advocate for Small business in America. I have seen one of their TV ad’s today in the Blunt - Carnahan race. very good advertising.
