Democrats at DEFCON 1: Is Christine O’Donnell now leading in internals?
HillBuzz ^ | 10/26/10 | hillbuzz

...

But, Democrats are ferociously attacking CoD as hard as they attacked Scott Brown in Massachusetts. If she is so far behind, what is the point in beating up on this woman?

This is anecdotal, but I think I know why they are doing this…jusr like with Hottie McAwesome there are internals showing O’Donnell ahead.

Today I talked to a friend ftom Team Hillary who is a big Dem fundraiser. He told me that for the last week or so the DNC has been at DEFCON 1 leaning HARD on the rainmakers because they are terrified of a CoD win in Delaware.

The problem is some internal poll that apparently shows that a high percentage of Democrats early voting are voting straight ticket Republican instead…they are Democrats voting against Democrats.

We should enjoy reading this very much.

I personally would like to have a real poll to look at.

The TCJ polls do not count as real polls. The Tea Party Express poll does not automatically count as a real poll. It could, but Tea Party Express did not give enough details about the poll they talked about in their Sunday email.

Something to note: Christine O'Donnell often gives a shout out to Hillary Clinton whenever it seems appropriate. Christine is most certainly trying to win the votes of Hillary Clinton supporters. If it's working, it's working.

OK, here’s what I don’t get.

0’s approval rating is down to 37%, it’s lower ever, and Coons has all but said he’ll be a rubber stamp for this 37% approval president.

Why on earth would Delawareans vote for a Senate candidate who would follow the policy of a president who has a sub-basement approval rating?

Not only is it bad for Coons (he’d be a one term Senator) but more importantly, of course, it’s bad, VERY BAD, for the state of Delaware and our entire nation!

here’s what i think and wonder- there’s got to be a reason coons the commie came out last week and said he supported extending the Bush tax cuts for the rich and it has nothing to do with his belief it will help the economy or part of his broader economic strategy- so what gives????

Hill Buzz (and this is why these guys were created) is saying what I said in 2008 - Dems should have voted against Obama for the good of their party and the country in 2008.

McCain sucked big time and is a Dem anyway. I know a few moderate middle aged Dems and they are terrified. They saw 60 Minutes. i Think a lot of them are hitting the reset button.

The Dem Party NEVER should have let the Chicago/Islamic/Black Panther Party/SEIU/ACOR/LaRZA/CAIR wing take over. McCain is a POS but he would have sunk Obama in 2008.

I could have sworn they would have pushed the “reset” button in 2008 but they blew it.

It was easy to determine months ago that if she won the primary the Democrats would be focused on her. The Democrat media hates religion. So, “destroy Christine, mock Christine, all Christine all the time” was going to be their plan. But they were bound to overplay their hand, go overboard, not to be critical, judgmental, but to just hate her. Kieran Chetry (sp?) took the “anti-prayer” position today. Yes, the media is anti-God, but the American people aren’t. Obama is unpopular nationally, which helps the Republicans, and most Delawareans aren’t anti-God.

I will be ecstatic if she wins, but right now I wouldn’t make any bets.

I wouldn’t say that Coons would necessarily be a 1 term Senator. It’s probable that it wouldn’t be a wave election for the Republicans in 2014. And incumbency does have advantages.

But Coons is not Manchin at all. Coons has not tried to separate himself from Obama the way Manchin has. (Not predicting the WV race, just saying that Manchin is doing better than one would expect in a state that is 60% against Obama). Christine should be able to get everybody who is against Obama. And people who are against Obama are more likely to vote this time around.

I don’t think that Obama’s favorability is as low as 37% in Delaware though.

Nonsense.

The reason the Democrats are spotlighting COD is because they believe most of the country now thinks she’s a goofball - so the left and the media are trying to use her to tar other Tea Party backed candidates. Liberals especially seem to think COD is causing Toomey damage in Pennsylvania.

There are no legitimate polls that show COD even close to Coons.

TCJ is not a real poll. Where are these TPE polls and can we see the internals?

The election is 1 week from today. I think COD will lose by at least 10. If she manages to win, it would mean a giant Republican tide is sweeping the nation. My faith in Americans will be restored, my faith in human nature will be buoyed beyond belief, and I will happily concede (along with every political strategist in the game) to have having been completely and utterly wrong.

The thing I can’t figure out in the DE race is President Obama.

On one hand, the President had to campaign for some candidates, just to try and remove the “toxic” label. So, the President may have campaigned in DE, because it is one state where the president could do no real harm. Theoretically, anyway.

Or, DE is a lot closer than polls are showing and the President can ill afford to lose Biden’s old seat.

I tend toward the latter explanation, because campaign face time by the President is a limited and valuable commodity. As such, the President probably can’t afford to campaign in a state that is supposedly a “lock.”

Well, I have no idea there. The point isn’t that the poll is accurate. I’m not saying anything about a poll that is accurate. The last “real” poll was Rasmussen, taken 10/14, showing Christine down by 11.

What this article is about is an ancedotal story about how Democrats are responding to information they are getting.

Personally, I’m not sure that “early voting” is an option for Delawareans. Absentee voting perhaps? But I’ll let that slide.

People who don’t like polls, but like rumors of polls with no evidence that those polls exist, will appreciate the report of a poll with Christine down by 5. An improvement over the other fictional polls that had Christine down by 6.

Paging Techno. Christine down by 5.

Polls aside, I think she wins. She’s had the opportunity to come across as not a crazy idiot in the debates, and she did even way way better than that. She even beat Coons (Yale Law) at Constitutional Law.

This is the same BS retread we heard in 2008. Some insider somewhere saying Dems are worried and talking about polls that never get released. They are attacking her to make a point that whenever these Tea Party types are nominated, they are beaten bad. A couple of days ago there was some talk of a poll showing her 6 points down. Of course no poll has been released. Let’s not be blind to the facts.

11 points is close. Not really super close, but considering that we don’t know how much better the Republican turnout will be than the Democrat turnout, and each day brings great news, theres a good reason to think the race would be definitely in single digits if it was Democrats 40, Republicans 37 in terms of turnout.

The most recent poll is Rasmussen 11. The wider gap polls are the older polls.

I do agree with you, and have agreed with you, about the merit of the TCJ Research polls. We both think those are BS. And the TPE polls were good in September, but we don’t know about the particular poll that the TPE was talking about on Sunday.

I think she impressed in the debate, and that Coons is tied to the hip with Obama.

I think she wins.

The reason why the Dems and the media started talking about Christine on September 14/15 is that they can’t help themselves. They don’t like religion or religious people, and they don’t think their viewers do either. They are wrong. Many of their viewers don’t like religion, but many do. People around the country have been watching MSNBC and CNN and seeing the people up there trashing Christine as evil.

I don’t understand your point.

All we’ve been seeing over the last few days nationally is story after story of how the Republicans are voting and the Democrats aren’t.

It is true that we haven’t had a poll in 12 days. The last poll was the Rasmussen, and that was at 11 points.

Since then, Christine has had 2 debates, where she battled hard against a Yale Lawyer on Constitutional Law. Certainly she did not fail there to those who were paying attention.
Clearly, she’s not the crazy idiot that MSNBC thinks she is.

That is sinking in.

If the people of Delaware approve of Obama, and are enthusiastic about more Obama-style goverment, Coons will win.

If the people of Delaware disapprove of Obama, and are enthusiastic about stopping him in his tracks, Christine will win.

She has stayed on message, run a professional campaign, and will win - because the Republicans are itching to stop Obama, and the Democrats are not itching for more Obama, to anywhere near the same extent.

The reason why the Dems and the media started talking about Christine on September 14/15 is that they can’t help themselves. They don’t like religion or religious people, and they don’t think their viewers do either. They are wrong.

This is a very good point. They can't help themselves.

Still, I think COD is pretty tarred. Even a great candidate would have a hard time being the focus of millions upon millions of dollars of attack ads and scorn from the entire media and intellectual establishment.

She's handled herself well. I admire her. O'Donnell is a hell of a lot tougher than me or most people in this country. But political realities are what they are. I don't think she ever had any chance in Delaware. Never did, and don't think anything much has changed.

If the Republicans have an amazing night next week I think she'll still lose by 5. If Republicans just have a good night come election day, she'll lose by 10. I think we will see the latter.

Your point about the media/liberal elite not being able to help themselves is a good one though. These people don't understand the American public, they hate religion and religious people, they look down on regular folks - and yes, even if they were shooting themselves in the foot my guess is your right that they would still keep up with making fun of COD.

Polls aside, I think she wins.

I don't, if only because the demographics are badly against her.

Democrats outnumber Republicans in Delaware by 47-29%.

O'Donnell needs to make up that margin by winning hugely among independents, maybe coupled with utterly dismal turnout by Democrats and Coons-leaning independents.

Unfortunately for her, polls have been showing her trailing among independents by about the same as she's trailing in the overall results.

Some polls have her doing poorly even among Republicans (e.g., this one has her only getting 64% of Republicans, whereas Coons gets 19% Republican and 81% Democrat support....)

She’s had the opportunity to come across as not a crazy idiot in the debates, and she did even way way better than that. She even beat Coons (Yale Law) at Constitutional Law.

Arguable... but mainly irrelevant, given her demographic disadvantages. She's not going to get the dismal Democrat turnout she needs.
