Very Cool Cover!
ONLY four years after the voters sent them packing, handing both chambers of Congress to the Democrats at the 2006 mid-terms, the Republicans are back. Voters then (and again in 2008) decided that Republican policies had blown up the deficit with unaffordable tax cuts, let the banks run wild, dragged America into two costly wars and produced a wretched harvest of stagnant wages, rising job insecurity and soaring health-care costs. Now they seem to have decided that they like Barack Obama and the Democrats even less.
The mid-term elections on November 2nd saw the biggest swing to the Republicans for 72 years (see article). With a few results still to come, they have picked up over 60 seats in the House of Representatives, for a solid majority of at least 50. In the Senate they gained at least six seats, though they will fall short of control there.

For Mr Obama, the lesson is simple enough: sharpen up, and prepare for a tough two years. Yes, this was hardly an enthusiastic vote for his opponents, more a howl of rage against incumbents from citizens struggling after the worst slowdown since the 1930s. And he has a string of legislative achievements to his name. But plenty of centrists plainly fear that he has drifted too far to the left, that he dislikes business and that he does not understand middle America. He looks a far less competent figure than he did two years ago. With a hostile House and a gridlocked Senate, the chances of passing any big new laws are remote; and Republican victories in crucial swing states such as Florida, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania will make the president’s re-election battle in 2012 a lot harder. If Mr Obama is to win again, he needs to move back to the pragmatic centre of what is still a pretty conservative country.

Help me identify the posse on the cover. There are 2 I can’t quite pick. From the right, I see Cantor, Ryan, Boehner, Palin, ?, Romney, and ? The one on the far left looks a little like Rand Paul, but the hats are confusing.
However, the cover reminds me of the song, “My Heroes have always been Cowboys.”
Far left looks like the Huckster to me.

Could that be DeMint? I really cannot tell with those hats on, but I love the cover. I’m ready to pay my quarter and stay all morning to watch the serial. I hope I have enough change left over for a box of Jr. Mints!
You may be a kid, so I’ll explain. A quarter was the fare for the Sat. morning movie when I was a kid. You could go to the movie show at 9 AM and stay all morning to watch a couple of “serials” — on-going stories that ended in cliffhangers to get you to come back next week — as well as multiple cartoons. At least one of the serials was always a cowboy movie — Roy Rogers, or Gene Autry. Then there were short subjects which could range from documentaraies for kids to the 3 Stooges. If you were a real fanatic, you could stay past the noon break, if you could avoid the ushers, and watch the double feature in the afternoon.
This was long ago and far away in a gentler time and place. My friend and I stayed past the break to see the regular matinee one time, and my parents were on the verge of calling the police when I finally showed up at 4 PM. They hadn’t called yet because (of course) they would never dream of BOTHERING the police for a missing child who was sure to turn up sooner, or later. I never tried that again, however.
I’m not that young. Never went to one of those myself, but quite familiar with the concept.
LOL. Well, we had no TV, no Little League or soccer, not much to do on a Sat. morning. I guess it provided a break for our parents because we were out of their hair. Nobody worried about anybody being kidnapped, or molested. Never happened in my town.
I don’t know if it was my age, or the fact that we moved across town and the movies were a bus ride away, but Sat. morning movies were a thing of the past by the time I was 13. I had dance lessons and the house to clean for my mother. LOL.

In this western, Romney plays the role of the clean-cut, good lookin' cowboy who in the end, betrays the cause with his selfish wheeling-dealing with the enemy.
