Dem says its wrong to celebrate Christmas if unemployment benefits not extended. On Thursdays magnificent installment of "Hardball" on MSNBC (which is barely watched by anyone
except the hardest of hardcore libs), Congressman Jim McDermott was on with Chris Matthews, making the case about unemployment benefits extension, when he brought Christianity into the mix. According to McDermott, its "simply wrong" to celebrate Christmas and some of its themes like caring about the poor
if Americans do not support extending unemployment benefits. This week was a particularly insane week on "Hardball," as earlier in the week, Democrat senator Sherrod Brown blasphemed that unemployment benefits create jobs! Clearly, "Hardball" is becoming the clearing house of low-rated, cable "news" shows where wild Democrats appear to use twisted logic to make the case for unemployment benefits extension.

Some one needs to tell Mary and Joseph that they were too poor to celebrate the birth of Jesus....
He should file a bill abolishing Christmas if he really believes that.
Especially those that think they're too smart for conservatives in general, BUT YET they want to TAX the "stupid" conservatives.
It's so funny how many of these educated yuppies are nothing more than a bunch of Diane Chambers-- but at least Diane had a freaking job, and had some looks too!
The democrats don’t want to teach a man to fish (work) - they want to give him a fish every day (welfare), so that the man must go to them to eat. In fact, the democrats want to prevent the man from fishing by laying down a thick fiber of regulations so that even if the man learned to fish (and thus could become self-sufficient), he would not be able to legally do so and would thus be enslaved to the ones that provided him the fish.
And, of course, they also want to enslave the remaining fishermen (productive citizens) by confiscating their fish (through taxes) to give to the man that they won’t allow to fish in order to gain his trust (in essence, buying the votes of the non-productive with wealth stolen from the productive).
Celebrating the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ, has nothing to do with what the Government does or does not do.
It’s wrong to celebrate Christmas if the government is not giving you other people’s money that they work hard for so you don’t have to work?
Hmm, I see ....
Dems celebrate Christmas?!!! I thought they celebrate Holidays. Funny how they change their tune to suit their needs.
Truth is, money is not the reason for celebrating the birth of our Precious Lord Jesus. We celebrate His birth. How about celebrating His Birth and give Him a present instead.
The song "Joy to the World" should be changed to "Money to the world" if the Dems want to be PC.
If people en masse really are as desperate as the Rats claim, then they are eligble for welfare after their unemployment checks stop.
If they don’t qualify for welfare, then they have assets and income sufficient to avoid starvation at least.
I’m not suggesting people are not hurting. I’m saying the Rats have once again set up a pathetic straw man.

But they do approve of celebrating the Winter Solstice.
I thought that liberals hate all Christian holidays and don’t want anyone celebrating them. So why is this even news.
stopped reading at this point.
This is one of the many moral hazards with government, as opposed to private, “safety nets.”
Liberals love to outsource our personal human obligations to each other (whether it is charitable giving for the poor or parental responsibility for their childrens’ education) to the government. The government then not only forces people to be “charitable” (there’s a reason God says he “loves a cheerful giver”), which takes away any possibility of either accountability or cheerfulness, and then does a horrible job with that charity.
Big government is dehumanizing. Governments can NEVER be “compassionate”! Only people can be compassionate. And, as you say, forcing people to “give” leaves them angry; it also leaves the receivers ungrateful and feeling entitled to more. The human conduit, personal compassion, is missing.
But now that the Republicans have take charge of the house, I expect that things will become so bad that the Dark Ages would have been a better time to live in than now. (Not MaObama’s fault) The media is planning the propaganda campaign as we speak.
That should be easy enough to prove.
Where are the jobs created by unemployment compensation?
Afterall, we've had high unemployment for over 2 yrs. plenty of time for these jobs to show up.
I was doing some reading a few weeks ago on the subject of Paul's Roman citizenship. Came upon this article, Was Paul a Roman?"
The article was fascinating. In the course of discussing citizenship in Paul's time, it addressed several ways in which the Roman government was collapsing from within because of socialism.
First, the Matthew 23:9 admonition to call no man on earth your "Father" was set against the Roman idea that the Emperor was one's Father (Dan Quayle was right) AND that you "prayed" to your Father (the Emperor) for "benefits" (yes, all your needs -- more and more social welfare benefits). The follower of Jesus was being instructed to look to God for provision.
The author states that "Rome's decline began as it altered this system of self governance in exchange for dependence on benefactors who exercised authority by taking from their neighbors to supply their welfare."
A second interesting point was as to the Nicolaitians (Rev. 2:6.).
He writes that the error of the Nicolaitians was the error of Balaam: that is, "The Nicolaitan were members of social systems that forced the contributions of their neighbor to provide the their welfare and security."
Ping to # 55.
Unemployment benefits also hurt employers, and not just through forced contributions.
When many people are getting relatively generous and extended unemployment benefits, the government essentially becomes the employer’s biggest, most powerful, and most unfair COMPETITOR.
A small business that is struggling right now may nevertheless want to hire, so long as it can do so at a particular wage. Competing small businesses also must keep wages down. But along comes the government sending checks to the people the business would otherwise like to hire. Except the business can only attract workers if it can pay more than the government “pays” in unemployment. Or substantially more to make it worthwhile to take the job.
If a person is receiving, in effect, $10 an hour from the government to do nothing and a small business can offer $12 an hour for doing hard work . . . duh.
Essentially, businesses have to compete against the government for workers. And the more the government “pays” someone to be unemployed, the more a business has to pay in wages to induce people to take jobs.
Yes, the Libs know very well that if people who lost unemployment benefits are poor by the government’s definition (which is the only one that counts, eh?), they can apply for welfare, including food stamps, free cell phone, free bus passes, utility bill help, Medicaid and on and on.
And if the person losing unemployment is not at the poverty level such that they qualify for welfare, then, um, well, how do Libs claim they are destitute and desperate?
Of course, Libs would like to raise the poverty level again and again so that basically everyone who doesn’t have a job is eligible for welfare, no matter what their other assets or income.
And rather than do that directly, they look to do it indirectly, through infinite “insurance.”
