Most Americans oppose Michelle Obama’s Healthy Hunger-free Kids Act

A significant percentage Americans oppose the Healthy Hunger-free Kids Act pushed by First Lady Michelle Obama and signed into law by President Barack Obama signed on Monday.

Among other things, the $4.6 billion law allows the USDA to set nutritional standards for foods made and sold in schools; increases the number of children who qualify for school meal programs, and “sets basic standards for school wellness policies including goals for nutrition promotion and education and physical activity.”

According to a new Rasmussen poll, however, only 23 percent of those surveyed think the federal government should have a direct role in setting the nutritional standards for public schools.

As the act was pushed through Congress, both Michelle Obama and Nancy Pelosi stressed the need for the new regulations, saying that childhood obesity was not only a “economic threat,” but a “national security issue” as well. While recent polls show that Americans are concerned about issues of obesity in the country, 51 percent failed to see the threat to national security.

Preferences for federal intervention in childhood nutrition are more divided when factoring in race. A majority of whites, 34 percent, think parents and local governments should have the ultimate say in kids’ eating habits. Conversely, a majority 31 percent of blacks believe the federal government was capable of the decision.

Overall, however, 34 percent of respondents thought that parents should have the ultimate say in their child’s nutritional diet. Seventeen percent believed state and local governments, respectfully, know best when setting such standards.

Well, if most Americans oppose it, the dems will vote it into law in the next few days.

What Americans oppose doesn’t mean anything in this country anymore. The commie’RATS are now our nannies and will do what they believe is “good” for us whether we like it or not. Like Rush’s “long-haired, pony tail guy” said, we are the government’s “children”. The government needs to do what they think is best for us. We’re just too stupid to live our own lives.

The Governors of states say this “appease Mooschelle” bill is largely an unfunded mandate. The bill will cost an extra 36 cents a child. The Fed govt. will only pay 6 cents per kid.

Sooooo....who is going to pay to feed kids whose folks already receive food stamps for the whole family? Do Mom and dad still get to keep the food stamp benefit at the level that it prior to the taxpayers being forced to pay to feed their kids 24/7?

Actually, were just kind of tired of 'acts' that seem to prohibit things or make other things mandatory.

How about some freedom, for once?

If you can't manage that, then how about just leaving us the hell alone for a while?

No one has yet to notice that we didn’t have this obesity problem until we started dishing out free food....most of it going to people who are already receiving food stamps, subsidies...etc etc....

The more time you spend hungry, the thinner you get.

The more time you spend with a full stomach, the fatter you get.

Omarosa’s “Healthy Food” initiative is merely a ploy for backdoor socialism - and a starting point for cradle-to- grave government.

“Free food/healthcare/education for all” - are cliches that would never find favor with a majority of the American electorate if they were exposed for what they truly are - a socialist takeover of civilized society. However, throw the words “healthy and “children” in there - and you can get enough sheeple to listen.

BTW, my newspaper carried a recent article that described Omarosa’s “initiative” as being essential to “nutritional justice” (whatever that means).

I demand wagyu beef, arugula, and to have everyone’s mouth stitched firmly to the big-government teat. What's the problem with bringing a sack lunch, anyway? Oh, I forgot, big-government probably will ban that soon, too.

“majority of whites, 34 percent”?
“a majority 31 percent of blacks”?

With all due respect and not wishing to be inflammatory, if the first part of what you say is so, then to what purpose do we have a Second Amendment?

The bill reminds me of the local nuisance nosy busy body, always trying to tell everyone else what to do. Everyone has known someone like that. The type of person when you see them coming you try to run the other way.
