This is the report that Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik has been dreading since the tragic event on Saturday January 8.
The sheriff has been editorializing and politicizing the event since he took the podium to report on the incident. His blaming of radio personalities and bloggers is a pre-emptive strike because Mr. Dupnik knows this tragedy lays at his feet and his office. Six people died on his watch and he could have prevented it. He needs to step up and start apologizing to the families of the victims instead of spinning this event to serve his own political agenda.
Jared Loughner, pronounced by the Sheriff as Lock-ner, saying it was the Polish pronunciation. Of course he meant Scott or Irish but that isnt the point. The point is he and his office have had previous contact with the alleged assailant in the past and that is how he knows how to pronounce the name.
Jared Loughner has been making death threats by phone to many people in Pima County including staff of Pima Community College, radio personalities and local bloggers. When Pima County Sheriffs Office was informed, his deputies assured the victims that he was being well managed by the mental health system. It was also suggested that further pressing of charges would be unnecessary and probably cause more problems than it solved as Jared Loughner has a family member that works for Pima County. Amy Loughner is a Natural Resource specialist for the Pima County Parks and Recreation. My sympathies and my heart goes out to her and the rest of Mr. Loughners family. This tragedy must be tearing them up inside wondering if they had done the right things in trying to manage Jareds obvious mental instability.
Every victim of his threats previously must also be wondering if this tragedy could have been prevented if they had been more aggressive in pursuing charges against Mr. Loughner. Perhaps with a felony conviction he would never have been able to lawfully by the Glock 9mm Model 19 that he used to strike down the lives of six people and decimate 14 more.
This was not an act of politics. This was an act of a mentally disturbed young man hell bent on getting his 15 minutes of infamy. The Pima County Sheriffs Department was aware of his violent nature and they failed to act appropriately. This tragedy leads right back to Sherriff Dupnik and all the spin in the world is not going to change that fact.
liberal sheriff is going to have some trouble next election, I think
The more I hear about Dupe-nik, the more I see he is a complete imbecile. This incompetent moonbat should indeed be removed from office.
Spot on. I discussed this very thing with my significant other just last night.
I also believe he’s trying to cover his arse because the response to the shooting was so slow. Aren’t they saying it took 15 minutes or more for anyone, rescue or law enforcement, to arrive?
Bingo. I predict this sheriff will become a big part of the story in the out months, and will be shown to be negligent at best, and most likely incompetent (and will retire). He’s probably also the source of the initial erroneous reports of the congresswoman’s death.
I also think he’s a stupid old fool. That’s “free speech” right there ;-)
This sounds pretty devastating. I hope that someone in the media picks this up and verifies it. I don’t expect Keith Olberman to be the person who verifies it, but I would like to see someone confirm the facts.
Doubt it. Tucson is pretty liberal.
I dunno about that...some Tucson FReeper yesterday pointed out that he’s been Sheriff for over 30 years and is as well entrenched politically as a Kennedy in Massachusetts.
I have many Bookmarks. Two of them are labeled “Stupid Sh-T” and “More Crapola” and I am at a loss as to where to put it.
Hell, why not both.
Good, it’s starting to come out and more and more people will pick up on it.
Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnic and his staff were just extending a little professional courtesy to another Pima County employee. Now with six dead and what?, 10-15 wounded, there must be some misdirection for the press. This will divert attention away from the Sheriff & members of his staff that are responsible for NOT following the law and or procedure.
He threatened on MySpace in December to kill police officers. Why wasn’t he taken into custody?
When the lawsuits start rolling in the sheriff will resign.
Is this documented or just someone’s opinion?
Might want to check your spelling on that. But a good idea.
A red herring. Dupnik covering his butt.
The sheriff himself admitted the suspect had made threats that he was aware of.
