Bill Maher closed out tonights season premiere of Real Time with one of his go-to bits: Tea Party (or, as hed say, Teabagger) bashing. He hit on his usual points on the subject, like what he sees as racist sentiments in the Tea Party and religion (of which, of course, Maher isnt much of a fan) with a slightly different conceit: he contrasted the Tea Party to the people they believe are just like them, but arent: the Founding Fathers.
It should be noted that some of Mahers criticism was just gratuitous/mean-spirited/weird (i.e. potshots at Tea Partiers personal hygiene), and some was wrong (ex. calling Thomas Paine an atheist when he was actually deist). But as is Mahers wont, it was certainly provocative, with his overarching message being:
[T]he Founding Fathers would have hated your guts and whats more, you would have hated them. They were everything you despise. They studied science, read Plato, hung out in Paris, and thought the Bible was mostly bullsh*t.
Maher got a crack in at the Founders as well, saying they had a moral code, but it didnt come from the Bible except for the part about, its cool to own slaves. And of course, he got in a dig at Sarah Palin over her line from last year that America needs a commander-in-chief, not a professor of law standing at the lectern. Maher quoted Palin, then rattled off a list of Founding Fathers who were also lawyers.
And Maher saved one of his better lines for near the end of the segment in emphasizing that the Founding Fathers were not the common men of their day, he mentioned Ben Franklins scientific achievements, and said that were he alive today, he could probably explain to Bill OReilly why the tides go in and out. Mahers assertions might not have been all on the mark, but theres no question plenty of people will be talking about them. Watch the segment and Martin Short serve as Mahers personal laugh track below.

Pay attention to ME!
There is NO hate, like liberal hate.
More people know about this than by watching his low rated show. Not worth the time IMO.
Brings back a lot of fond memories, I guess.
And they would have committed him to an insane asylum.
It’s pretty clear that Maher has some profound *issues.* He doesn’t even like himself very much.
Deja View albeit from other sources:

... “say whatever you want; good, bad, I don’t care, as long as it’s all about ME”...
Why? The guy is an idiot screaming for attention.
I would take advice from this guy
Yeah, the Founders, who fought a war due to high taxes and lack of freedom, would have hated the Taxed Enough Already party, but would have loved people like Maher, who want to control everyone else’s lives through big government and high taxes.
Sorry Billy. I'm afraid they would have hated YOUR guts.
Bill Maher is another lucid dreamer.
As are Loughner and James Eric Fuller.
The founders would have probably listened to a few minutes of Bill Maher’s crap and then sent him back to finish shovelling out the stables.
Eliminate his audience by addressing the REAL root cause of their anger: Legalize marijuana.
As if, in a millenia of lifetimes, Maher would have ever been an authority on the Founding Fathers ... or anything else for that matter.
Dang. I had no idea Maher was gay.
1. Name Maher’s specific accusation.
2. Define it.
3. Explain its meaning in specific terms.
4. Refute it with facts.
5. Repeat.
Bonus: Maher must also defend his elitism and smugness as quintessentially better than the rest of the citizens he so despises.
