Did anyone see a green meteor in NC sky tonight?

Around 10:30 PM tonight my son and I saw a bright green streak that appeared to be heading South to North toward Charlotte, NC. The light appeared to be going very fast, and accelerating on a downward path in the sky.

I haven't heard anything on the local news about it.

It broadcast its flight plan?

Is this one of those weird signs we’re supposed to see in the sky?

If it was green, I’m betting Al Gore was somehow involved.

I’m up north of you near the VA border. Didn’t see it. The meteor you saw had a high nickel content, that’s what made it look greenish. The last really bright one I saw was two years ago, it was vivid blue. Magnesium causes that. It was sort of an omen, lol, Carolina dropped a big game and lost badly later that same night.

The colors of meteors are determined by their chemical composition. I’ve seen a purple one once during the Leonids.

Lucky you. I have’t seen a green one since 1981.

Copper burns green. Potassium burns purple.

Green meteor?

It was probably headed for Kansas.

What was the really showy meteor shower we had in the US maybe ten years ago? It was cold weather here in NC, so winter, I remember freezing my butt off to go outside and watch. Really amazing display, many different colors, some flaring up in one color and flaming out as another, with the larger ones leaving visible smoke trails. I’ve never seen anything like that before or since.
