Complete title: Interior Secretary Says White House Opposes Drilling in Arctic Because It Will Not Lead to Energy Independence

VIDEO 2:09 minutes

(CNSNews.com) - When asked why the Obama administration opposes drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) given the rising cost of gasoline, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar told CNSNews.com that the “drill, baby, drill program” is not going to lead the United States to energy independence.

“We don’t believe that you need to drill everywhere and we don’t believe that the 'drill, baby, drill' program is the way that’s going to get us to the energy independence that we need for America or that will power our economy and that’s why the President has been so clear from day one and we in the Department of Interior have been so clear that what we need to do is need to have a robust energy program that includes a number of different sources of energy and while yes, we are pushing forward with oil and gas development both offshore and onshore which was the subject of much of the hearing today, we’re also moving forward with renewable energy,” he told CNSNews.com after testifying before the House Natural Resources Committee about his Department’s FY2012 budget.

“The President has said we are supporting nuclear, we’re support other clean air energy forms and at the end of the day, this is a place where there is hope that perhaps some of the Republicans in the House would come together and say that we can move forward with energy legislation that moves us into this new energy future.”

Salazar was also asked what the White House is saying about drilling in the Gulf.

“What I say is what the White House would say and that is that we are moving forward with an effort to stand up oil and gas drilling in the deep oceans of the gulf and are doing it in a safe and orderly way and that’s reflected in the budget request that we were defending for the President today,” he said.

Obama and his idiots are determined to destroy our economy.

But they evidently believe importing more oil will.

But it's not about energy, anyway.

It's about punishing America for it's past success, and making sure it can never happen again.

<"The President has said we are supporting nuclear,"

Actions speak louder than words. How many nuclear plants has Obama approved? And one of the first things he tried was to shut down the nuclear waste storage sites.

Then I suppose “Don’t drill, baby” gets us to energy independence?

One regular argument of the dishonest is “but that won’t solve the entire problem—so we can’t do it.” In fact, the speaker usually has no desire to solve the problem at all and loathes the idea of solving even a part of it.

The sooner this guy goes, the better.

I think the Republicans need to run a congressional investigation into the Gulf oil spill.

Among other things, they might inquire how Salazar gets away with defying a federal judge repeatedly.

Or they might ask him why the only company Salazar has given permission to open a new well in the Gulf is jointly owned by none other than BP.

Of course, none of the weather-dependent “green technologies” will lead us to energy independence either but that doesn’t stop the Marxist regime from pushing it. Domestic drilling would at least bring the price down of a vital commodity while all these green initiatives seem to all come with major pricetags.

Thank you Mr. Obama for your lack of energy policy and lack of energy sense.

Why work, I'll never earn enough money to pay my bills and feed my self.

Why drill for oil when we can never be self sufficient.

Bot statements are based in liberalism.

And 100% inaccurate.

These anti-American environazis and liberals have been saying this since the 1970’s. If we had started then, we would be on our way now.

“Renewable” energy = NO energy

And that’s exactly what they want.

Yep, Zer0 says lots of things but it doesn’t mean they’re true. His thug Dingy Harry can’t shut down the multi-billion dollar NV storage site fast enough.

20 more nuclear power plants online would really help quite a bit as well...

A rising tide floats all boats and the only drilling these idiots want to do is through the hull of our own boat.

Will they actually be built, or will the greenies picket and get the approval yanked?
Beleive it when the reactors are built and have reached first critical.

Even if you drill in Alaska it will not change the amount of oil imported, lowest shipping cost is the shortest point from supply to market. There are several oil shipping charts on the web.

Therein lies the problem, environazis. They’ve set us back in every type energy compared to the rest of the world. The turkeys are even going after proposed wind and solar energy fields now because of damage to environment and/or animals, reptiles and birds.

“drill, baby, drill program” is not going to lead the United States to energy independence.

Does everyone here believe that if we open this that once and for all we will not accept any oil from the Middle East? If this is the case than I would say lets do it NOW. What does this guy know that we don’t?
