Boehner @ CPAC: "We Are Going to Cut $100 Billion" Next Week

Boehner on Cutting $100 Billion in Discretionary Spending Next Week:

"The American people have directed us to cut spending. We will. And there’s no limit to the amount we’re willing to cut to help get our economy moving again. Let me be very clear about this: we are going to exceed our Pledge to America. We are going to cut $100 billion in discretionary spending next week. Write it down. $100 billion in discretionary spending. And we aren’t going to stop there."

Add in the cuts from the continuing resolutions.

Even 100 B was not enough, but he did do better than most believe.

Seems like not too long ago 100 billion dollars was a lot of money. Now it is hardly a meaningful percentage of the total amount of US Gov. spending. When will we ever get back on track?

I respect your opinion Red, I always have and always will.

I'll agree to disagree.

Here are reasons why I disagree:

- Despite what some people on this forum are saying, the "power of the purse" does not rely solely in the House. The Senate By Law has to vote on the Appropriations Bills, and we DON'T control the Senate.

- We DON'T control who ultimately signs the FY budget; the President does. I know everyone here wants to suspend reality, but we don't, don't, don't have the White House right now.

- The FY2011 budget is yesterdays fight. If we kept following the script layered out by Pelosi/Reid, we would have continued fighting over yesterday's crumbs, not tomorrow's real cuts in FY 2012. Please try and understand, ultimately this budget for FY2011 was debating over .25 vs .27 savings. It wasn't worth it. Pelosi vowed to (this is an exact quote) "Leave a mess for the Republicans" and she did. We just cleaned it up. You cannot fight for the long term entitlement cuts (the ONLY way to reduce the deficit) in this year's budget. Ever. EVER.

This deal slammed the Democrats into a corner, and believe me, they will still be trying to figure out what happened to them in a couple of weeks.

Now, here is the REAL DANGER.

If the GOP does not follow Congressman Ryan's plan to reduce entitlements (Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid) - then the country is done. Period. Dot. Done. We will collapse into fiscal meltdown. The Dollar will be as worthless the Wehrmacht Reichsmark. Silver, gold, and commodities will go through the roof. Interest rates will become insane (think 1980 levels and add 10%). Food and gas prices will be unthinkable.

We have to win this for the long term. If we don't, we become slave to the world bank, the UN, China, and Satan himself.

No they did not cut the best deal they could.. they did not want to “risk” the shutdown POLITICALLY

I if the had the Senate they would have whined they need the White house.. If they had all 3 they would just do pork business as usual ..

We need a third party if we are to save this country

The House DID cut $100 B the next week.

In the same way the House DID pass the Contract for America in '94.

But the Senate in both cases refused to do the same.

I would love a third party, but unfortunately it would never get off the ground, and possibly split the conservative vote, in effect handing the country to the ‘rats on a silver platter.

Here's the problem I have with some of the posters here.

This economy has taken YEARS to get in the condition it is in.

It will NOT be solved all at once, no matter how much you throw a tantrum, no matter how much you b!*ch about what or was not done.

BOENER GOT THE DIMS TO BLINK. Get it?

The tone has changed from spending, spending, spending, to stopping it. It would have been far worse to shut the government down, and holding the military hostage, pout over a few billion.

Name one of the Congress-critters with the balls to do that?

This is a win for conservatism. Not the big all-or-nothing that wins us nothing but disdain from most of the electorate, but a victory.

Had the government shutdown, it would have handed Oblunder his 2nd term.

This is going to take a LOT of fighting, not just one battle for America, but a number of battles.

What is with all the name calling? Childish plays on his name and references to him crying. Argue a point, leave off the name calling. I have seen him referred to as a crude term for a male erection, which should ban a poster on FR.

Is it any different from what Maher said about Palin? It was vulgar, vile, and very disrespectful. Now show some respect to the Speaker. If you don’t like him, say why and use his name.

Frankly, the man is having to deal with a President who may be our most left wing cheif executive in history and a leader of the Senate who appears to be a senile old man. Give him a break.

I agree with you. Maybe it will prove to be a watershed event that we can all look back that changed folk's view of the Nanny state of the federal government. We are doomed if we don't have a change in our thinking as a nation.

” It was vulgar, vile, and very disrespectful.”

Um, YOU show some respect....I’ll wait until he shows me some respect. So far, he has been disresepctful of my labors and money, the US Constitution, the founding fathers, and the principles of this nation.

I don’t prefer to hug my enemy like you do. And, yes, I consider anyone passing a budget bill for trillions of dollars with trillions in debt for programs congress was never authorized to pass in the first place an enemy.

Well at least you stated a point of argument instead of calling him a childish name. Your original post sounded like some of the mindless chatter you see on a Yahoo story comment section. If you call John Boehner your enemy, then we have no more to talk about.

“If you call John Boehner your enemy, then we have no more to talk about. “

In other words, he’s a Republican so he gets a pass from you every bit as much as any liberal gives a Democrat a pass for anything they do no matter what.

Party Over Country.

I don’t play that way.

___________

Just a question. Boehner cut 78 Billion from government spending yesterday. Now, what did you do?

We’ve made progress. Why can’t some people accept a victory?

Why don't you go and try and do his job....you are just another armchair expert without a clue what is taking place...

All military personnel were issued checks or vouchers dated from April 1- April 8th and told that would be the last check they received if Congress did not pass a bill to extend the budget. Most other Federal employees didn't receive these checks/vouchers, just the military.

Congressional offices were overwhelmed with calls, emails and face to face confrontations from military personnel and families pleading with the Republican Leaders to cut a deal.. So Boehner took as much as he could get and made a deal, not because thats what he or the others wanted, but he, nor our party, wanted to stop the military from receiving their pay.. That was the deciding factor.

Here is what a young family member said while serving in Afghanistan: "I am being paid from the 1-8th of this month and no more, yet I will continue to serve my country to the best of my ability. Just please don't ruin my credit!!!!"

Here he is serving in another foreign war and he has to worry about this...the left is holding our military as a hostage...

I just thank The Lord for Boehner and his ability....
