John Boehner Must Go

What I’m hearing all over the news is that the “leaders” of the Democrat Party are claiming victory and the Republican Party “leaders” are claiming victory in last week’s short term budget battle.

The fact is that they are both right. They both won. The only losers in this deal are the American people and the Republic for which we stand.

In the short run it was a great achievement for ambitious politicians who fantasize about their place in history. In the long run it will not matter what they did because the way things are going, someone else, Communist China most likely, will be writing the history books; so posterity will scarcely know who they were.

I hear some of the posers on the right as they attempt to put some lipstick on this pig but the more I ruminate on the matter, the more disgusted I become.

I’m tired of being... (continued)

Boehner has already said that he will not use a government "shutdown" in negotiations, so what does he have to use when it comes to the debt ceiling battle? The only way things will change in Washington is for a new party to form that rejects the Beltway way of doing business. The Republicans and Democrats are both making sure that the size and scope of government doesn't recede, the rest is just bread and circuses for the fools that support both parties.

We are forecast to hit the debt ceiling in mid-May. We have just approved a budget that runs through Sept. 30th. Boehner knew this debt would exceed the debt ceiling and would make the debt ceiling debate mute. He caved on two issues with one vote.

Hey, I think that they wish that things were better - ie, a balanced budget! Now wouldn’t that be something worth celebrating? These folks really just want someone and somewhere to expound their ideas. Goodness knows that they are not only right but the basis of society... We can only hope that they succeed...

Yep. the future is now what Boehner does, not what he had done in the past. I agree that his time is now and how he handles it is key! I have given him grace for the past, but it is not time to step up and take charge.

Willing to give him comfort, but only if he does the right thing...and he knows what is right! If he does not do the right thing - the Tea Party will bring him to bear...

Waiting with baited breath...heh...

Hope that does not happen...but we do need to vote NO on this and continue reductions in spending... The chances of this happening are nil...

...Come on folks! Just who do you want in charge? He has done a decent job so far against 2/3rds of the government. What do you expect under the circumstances?...

That may be true, but you *do* know that the House controls %100 of the spending bills, right? Check your old high-school govt textbook and look up the House's role in fiscal matters. At the very least, without the house's agreement, it does not pass.

Boehner caved, just like he always does. The GOP caved, just like they always do. Boehner just PROVED to the Dems that he won't go all in and will fold. The DEMS now know just what Boehner's pressure-points are to make him fold.

We now know what to expect when it comes time for the Debt-Ceiling and 2012-Budget fights. There won't be much a fight. Boehner will surrender the battle as soon as the dems land the first, glancing blow. Better set your expectations low so you won't be disappointed.

For instance, one of the Dems primary positions in the recent CR battle (if you can call it a battle) was funding for abortions over funding for troops and they didn't budge. Boehner and the GOP didn't even try to attack that position. Totally clueless. They just let it slide. Did you hear *ANY* GOP leader passionately attack that position? I sure didn't. They won't fight, even when presented with such an easily attacked position. Case closed.

Nothing will change as long as the GOP (as a political organization) influences who is in leadership positions; who chairs committees; how primaries are conducted; etc.

Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. The GOP has plenty of established history of "ultimately surrendering" that we can learn from (but we won't). The GOP needs to go the way of the Whigs (but it won't). We need a replacement party (not a third-party); but conventional wisdom precludes that ever happening.

I don't have the answer, but the status-quo *clearly* ain't working. God help us.

You’re exactly right. We only started the job of cleaning house in 2010, and there is plenty more to do in 2012 and 2014. Boehner isn’t the perfect Speaker but he will do for now.

A number of freepers have consumed the Kool-Aid believing that Boehner has conservatives backs.

“You look like a fool,” Tea Party Nation founder Judson Phillips wrote in a post on the group’s website, directing his message at the Ohio Republican. “Charlie Sheen is now making more sense than John Boehner.” Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0311/50576.html#ixzz1JJPhodLZ

Actually, I am leaning toward your position. He has NOT sustained my belief in the Republican party so far.

Am beginning to think third party as blasphemous as that seems...
