President Obama releases long-form birth certificate

Article II, Section 1 No person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty-five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States. The early Presidents met the second part of Art. II Sec. 1 being a citizen at time of adoption of the Constitution. Otherwise you need to be a natural born citizen which literature of the time meant that both parents had to be citizens.

Any child born in the united states regardless of the nationality of his/her parents is a citizen up and until he/she turns 18 and then or afterwords actively chooses to pledge allegiance to another country.

So that is my explanation of how someone can be a Natural Born citizen if both parents are not citizens.

People who believe that the most likely scenario in 1962 was for an American woman to travel from Hawaii to Kenya and bear a child, and then somehow get a U.S. passport for that child and make it back to that little island with no one the wiser, will believe anything they want to.

I feel it is up to some of us that are not in the so-called "Birther" ranks to bring up the flaw in your statement.

Those that have asked for the Long Form Birth Certificate have done so for two reasons. First they believe that the Constitution's specific wording of "natural born citizen" precludes certain people that might other might otherwise be citizens not requiring naturalization and the full and actual birth records would answer how a son of a British Colonial subject meets that qualification. Secondly they have seen all sorts of false and misleading documents issued earlier. As it is obvious that large sums of money and great effort has been expended to not produce a simple document we all have been called for to produce in the course of our lifetime, the obvious question is, "what is trying to be hidden."

The Electoral College and the House actions regarding the election have obviously taken place. The various State officials certified the election results without commenting or qualifying. He was Inaugurated and sworn in by the Chief Justice. The Constitution gives only one format for removal from office so no civil or statute court action could save us from the actions of our country in making him President. Subtleties of native born citizen versus natural born citizen sound like so much Jim Crow "poll tax" issues to most of our countrymen. In the last fifty years we have entered an era where all the social standards for legitiment birth, parantage and norms of the prior era have been set aside in not only society, but law in many cases.

There are hundreds of marxists that could stand in his place or be elected next time and it is the policies that have to be defeated, not this scam artist alone. That being said, I am not going to dismiss the "Birthers" as carpers about his birth place alone -- there arguements are detailed, extensive and honest -- I just don't think they matter.

You are describing a citizen. A naturalized citizen.

a natural born citizen is different. The reason the founders included the language was to insure the person occupying the top seat would have no other allegiances.

If your parents were citizens of another nation when you were born, they you could have split loyalties.

There is a significant and deliberate reason for choosing the wording as they did.

Nope, not true. You have to be born on US soil. Even if your parents are from China, don't speak English and are just passing through on the way to Cuba. It does not matter. Babies born here are Citizens from the moment of birth.

If you are born here, you are a citizen. That is the law and has always been the law. That is the reading of the constitution.

Naturalized, refers to people born elsewhere and have changed their allegiance to the US and the US has accepted them as citizens. They are Nationalized citizens and are not quite Natural born citizens in that their citizenship can be taken away. And they cannot be president.

You’re cutting the phrase off too soon - it’s “a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution”

There are two options: the one above, or that of being a natural born citizen. Since Obama was not a citizen at the time the Constitution was ratified, he must satisfy the other requirement.

Are you really that ignorant?

New born children travel under the mother’s passport; all that is required is a visit to the nearest US Consulate for a stamp, which in this case would have been less than 10 miles away.
