This Mortal Coil: Up Yours, An Exploration of the Nether Regions (WARNING: MATURE SUBJECT MATTER)

When they first discovered them, the slender tubes perplexed the Ivy League Archaeologists exploring the ancient Mayan ruins. Nothing in their experience would have prepared them to contemplate an elite whose highest rites included pumping fermented Lonchocarpus tree bark up their anuses. At the time, our society still held to the ancient covenants that prohibited inserting foreign objects up our rectums. Imagine how surprised these same academics would have been if they would have known that thirty years later the health services and administrators of the universities where they worked would be promoting such practices.

In a medical setting there are some legitimate reasons for inserting items such as medicine and diagnostic equipment up ones anus under supervision of a qualified medical professional.

Why should "medical professionals" only get to have fun?! Isn't that the point of this article?

Anal sex, bisexuality, excessive drinking, drugs, etc all all signs of a decaying society that has migrated away from the daily fight for survival to self-destruction.

It is humorous, because liberals try to tell us that we should use our minds for creativity and the improvement of our planet, yet they promote self-destruction.

Are you really defending anal sex as a safe practice? If I follow your argument, it is somehow recommended because it is where your body stores large concentrations of lethal bacteriological flora.

While you are correct that the body does a good job of keeping specific bacteriological flora that your body has evolved to coexist with over eons contained, you fail to mention the impact introducing of foreign microbes into this environment. You also fail to mention that the sphincter and anus, since they were not designed for this purpose often easily tear and become swollen allowing normal bacteriological flora (which is lethal when not contained in the colon) and even less benign microbes to flood your system.

Anal Sex

Focus on the second paragraph, the parts about the cuts and tears and the fact that the rectum is designed to soak up fluids and does a really good job of soaking up blood borne disease laden fluid such as HIV:

Among the diseases with which anal sex is associated are HIV,[86] human papilloma virus (HPV) (which can increase risk for anal cancer),[87] or typhoid fever.[88] Among these are: amoebiasis; chlamydia; cryptosporidiosis; E. coli infections; giardiasis; gonorrhea; hepatitis A; hepatitis B; hepatitis C; herpes simplex; human papillomavirus; Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (HHV-8);[89] lymphogranuloma venereum; Mycoplasma hominis; Mycoplasma genitalium; pubic lice; salmonellosis; shigella; syphilis; tuberculosis; and Ureaplasma urealyticum.[9][90][91][92]

The high concentration of white blood cells around the rectum, together with the risk of cuts to the rectum and that one of the functions of the rectum is to absorb fluid, increases the risk of HIV transmission because the HIV retrovirus reproduces within the immune system's T-cells/CD4 cells. Use of condoms and other precautions are a medically recommended way to lessen risk of infections. Unprotected receptive anal sex is the most risky sexual behavior in terms of HIV transmission.[93][94][95]

Here is a little something from the CDC web site:

the person receiving the semen is at greater risk of getting HIV because the lining of the rectum is thin and may allow the virus to enter the body during anal sex

The Health Risks of Gay Sex

a. Anal-genital

Anal intercourse is the sine qua non of sex for many gay men.22 Yet human physiology makes it clear that the body was not designed to accommodate this activity. The rectum is significantly different from the vagina with regard to suitability for penetration by a penis. The vagina has natural lubricants and is supported by a network of muscles. It is composed of a mucus membrane with a multi-layer stratified squamous epithelium that allows it to endure friction without damage and to resist the immunological actions caused by semen and sperm. In comparison, the anus is a delicate mechanism of small muscles that comprise an "exit-only" passage. With repeated trauma, friction and stretching, the sphincter loses its tone and its ability to maintain a tight seal. Consequently, anal intercourse leads to leakage of fecal material that can easily become chronic.

The potential for injury is exacerbated by the fact that the intestine has only a single layer of cells separating it from highly vascular tissue, that is, blood. Therefore, any organisms that are introduced into the rectum have a much easier time establishing a foothold for infection than they would in a vagina. The single layer tissue cannot withstand the friction associated with penile penetration, resulting in traumas that expose both participants to blood, organisms in feces, and a mixing of bodily fluids.

Furthermore, ejaculate has components that are immunosuppressive. In the course of ordinary reproductive physiology, this allows the sperm to evade the immune defenses of the female. Rectal insemination of rabbits has shown that sperm impaired the immune defenses of the recipient.23 Semen may have a similar impact on humans.24

The end result is that the fragility of the anus and rectum, along with the immunosuppressive effect of ejaculate, make anal-genital intercourse a most efficient manner of transmitting HIV and other infections. The list of diseases found with extraordinary frequency among male homosexual practitioners as a result of anal intercourse is alarming:

Anal Cancer Chlamydia trachomatis Cryptosporidium Giardia lamblia Herpes simplex virus Human immunodeficiency virus Human papilloma virus Isospora belli Microsporidia Gonorrhea Viral hepatitis types B & C Syphilis25

Sexual transmission of some of these diseases is so rare in the exclusively heterosexual population as to be virtually unknown. Others, while found among heterosexual and homosexual practitioners, are clearly predominated by those involved in homosexual activity. Syphilis, for example is found among heterosexual and homosexual practitioners. But in 1999, King County, Washington (Seattle), reported that 85 percent of syphilis cases were among self-identified homosexual practitioners.26 And as noted above, syphilis among homosexual men is now at epidemic levels in San Francisco.27

A 1988 CDC survey identified 21 percent of all Hepatitis B cases as being homosexually transmitted while 18 percent were heterosexually transmitted.28 Since homosexuals comprise such a small percent of the population (only 1-3 percent),29 they have a significantly higher rate of infection than heterosexuals.30

Anal intercourse also puts men at significant risk for anal cancer. Anal cancer is the result of infection with some subtypes of human papilloma virus (HPV), which are known viral carcinogens. Data as of 1989 showed the rates of anal cancer in male homosexual practitioners to be 10 times that of heterosexual males, and growing. 30 Thus, the prevalence of anal cancer among gay men is of great concern. For those with AIDS, the rates are doubled.31

Other physical problems associated with anal intercourse are:

hemorrhoids anal fissures anorectal trauma retained foreign bodies.

Melas as anal sex bandit?

Melas ...say it ain’t so.../s

*for the record my view is what a husband and wife do in private is their business including backdoor action and other different things...folks like variety

** long as they don’t become like homosexuals and demand special rights or identify themselves by their peccadillos

But you do have a point...anal sex is obviously a serious point of disease transfer...no question

Dude, you seriously need to go back and read my reply in context of the reply chain, and not the original post which I did not reply to. I never mentioned anal sex.

I was correcting you on your reply to the shipwrecked family. Yes, it's better to take the bad water via enema. You can even take seawater that way. It still has too much salt to sustain you indefinitely, but since salt is primarily absorbed in the small intestine, and the enema only fills the colon and large intestine you'll absorb less of it than you would had you drank it, and last much longer.

Anal sex is risky not because the area in question isn't equipped to deal with bacteria, but because the act itself destroys that specialized ability to deal with bacteria. It's literally the violence of the act that opens fissures leading to the spread of disease.

And Wardaddy, it ain't so. lol

When I posted this, it never crossed my mind that it would turn into a debate on the merits of injecting rancid water into anuses. Since I do not have television, I missed the episode of "Man vs Wild" where it was demonstrated.

My apologies for misinterpreting your post. If you would read my replies more carefully, I did cover the real reason that one would choose this type of procedure as a last ditch survival technique.

One does not give oneself an enema of fetid water because it safe and because the anus has some magical power to deal with foreign bacteria.

One does it because your anus does not have a gag reflex that is used to protect us from infections/toxins. Again, your anus is designed as an exit point and, therefore, lacks such basic protections.

Enema

According to British television personality Bear Grylls, an enema may be used as a last-resort method for hydration, particularly if the only available water is contaminated and unfit for drinking; the reasoning is that the water would be readily absorbed by the colon while avoiding any gag reflex and vomiting caused by the contaminants. He demonstrates this on an episode Pacific Island - Panama of his TV series Man Vs. Wild.[15]

It is important to note that this method will not eliminate any poisons or micro-organisms present in the water, and administering an enema with contaminated water can result in infection. The only safe ways of sterilization are boiling, distillation, or the use of sterilizing tablets such as iodine.

Yes, your body has a symbiotic relationship with certain bacteria that developed over eons. It is such a tight relationship that it is sometimes referred to as the forgotten organ. Scientists believe that part of its function is to keep harmful bacteria from establishing itself in your gut. This does not mean that it was designed to cope with massive infusions of foreign microbes inserted into ones anus.

I've never watched "Man vs Wild", or any reality TV for that matter. It's not a political statement. I just don't like reality tv.

My info came courtesy of your tax dollars, well maybe not yours given your youth, via the United States Navy. Especially the bit about sea water.

Luckily for me, I've never had need for any survival information that I may have picked up over the years. I've got my fingers crossed hoping that trend continues unabated until the end.

I am afraid this is not one of those "what people do behind closed doors is their own business" type of things.

The government and schools are hell bent on promoting this highly dangerous practice to our youth. Our society will pay a dear price for this.

Yale President “Levin the Confused” into Student Anal, Oral Sex and Sadomasochism to Stimulate Faculty and Student Potential

Ok,Ok, the Yale critics are right. Young gentlemen should not conduct themselves this way. But wait, what else is happening on campus? Well, there’s Yale’s biennial “Sex Week” – a nine-day student-sponsored event timed to coincide with Valentine’s Day and blessed by university bigwigs. Last year, a Sex Week headliner was porn megastar Sasha Grey.

Grey’s claim to fame is her insatiable appetite for being sexually brutalized. Among porn performers, she stands out for “her take-no-prisoners attitude toward the hardest of hardcore sex scenes and consensual degradation,” according to the Los Angeles Times.

I would recommend drinking less than 32oz of sea water a day as a last ditch solution.

Survival at Sea

Many experts still disagree with Bombard’s theory, but the fact that he has survived 63 days on drifting raft without any other food and water than what the ocean could provide him gives a lot of credit to his research on sea survival. Bombard doesn’t disregard the danger of drinking sea water. During his testing periods he got sick when he tried to drink more than 32oz of sea water per day for more than five days.
