The field for the GOP 2012 Presidential primary is beginning to take shape, both in terms of who is running and who is not. Frankly, Im neither surprised nor disappointed by Donald Trumps announcement that he will not run. Although he promised to be an interesting candidate, it was becoming increasingly clear that he would prove to be more of a distraction than a serious contender for the office.
Newt Gingrich has finally made his candidacy official, and has promptly made sure there is no chance I will be able to support his efforts by trying to co-opt Obamacare and make it his own. In recent comments made on Meet The Press, Gingrich basically endorsed the idea of socialized medicine, with the major difference being that the states would be responsible for legislating the individual mandates rather than the federal government.
Although I have been interested in the idea of a Gingrich candidacy, I have always been hesitant about the possibility because one never really knows what Newt is going to come up with next. One day he is a . . .

Agree. Newt sounded terrible. Not a chance in h...to win.
Newt is dead in the water before he starts, with no one to blame but himself and his big mouth and stupid ideas.
I bet he can’t raise a dime.
A young friend of mine, an officer in the Georgia College Republicans state executive committee, helped set up things for Newt this weekend at the Georgia GOP state convention. He was impressed with Newt’s ability to campaign and fired up about Newt’s chances.
I suspect he is very disappointed, but we had discussed that Newt falls in love with an idea and strays off course while saying things that scare conservatives to death. I had no idea it would happen just two days later.
Any “good” candidate will have a sense of the sensibilities of the majority of the country. Sarah Palin is the closest one we’ve seen by that light, though she hasn’t made a bid yet. Newt can’t accept that Obamacare or any other mandated plan purchase system is a dead dog. Trump is too egotistical, though unlike Obama at least he can tell when he’s being dissed. If Herman Cain wants to go far, he won’t appear so cozy with bankers as he has been.
I thought Alaska had a corner on duplicitous republicans. Maybe Newt and Lisa Murkowski can run on same ticket.
Slimy Newt is on the Rusty Humphries radio show right now, bailing water like Sean Penn in his New Orleans rowboat.
Well, bye Noot.
The least bad thing I can come up with to say about Newt...is that at least he’s better than Romney.
Did you say “Noot”? What’s a “Noot”? Sorry judge i meant NOOOOOT. Oh!
>>Has Newt gone around the bend or is he still a viable candidate?<<
He went around the bend three years ago:

>>But whom shall we choose?<<
Someone who has not yet announced. The current crop is ridiculous. If this is it, expect four more years of Urkel.
Therein lies the rub....
Newt always self-destructs. It’s part of his nature.
Actually, I was thinking that this put Newt under Romney. They are both digging as fast as they can. It’s pathetic to watch.
No.
Romney’s signal to the gay lobby duribg his tenure as Governer that he would be willing to throw the boyscouts under the bus was a level of low that only Rudy has equalled...among republican contenders.
