The USSR collapsed because its economics couldnt work and its politics failed too. Its ironic indeed that the cold war victor is following Soviet footsteps toward its own collapse.
Personal freedom, irreplaceable in the exploitation of opportunities, is steadily diminishing as the scope of private decision-making shrinks in response to the expansion of the scope of decision areas reserved by the state. Once, unlike the Soviets, we decided what our children would be taught, whom we would employ, what crops we would raise and what we would manufacture; our doctors decided what treatments to provide their patients. Human creativity was unrestricted; opportunity beckoned any with the drive to pursue it.
Once, the U.S. dollar was as good as gold, preferred over most other currencies; it wasnt a declining remnant of a one-time prosperity, steadily dwindling in response to the self-serving heedlessness of politically and personally immature spendthrifts in charge of it. The dollar seems headed to join the ruble.
And once, the United States led the world into the productive miracle of mass production, producing endless streams of the worlds newest, best and most useful goods at endlessly decreasing prices the Soviets could only envy. Now, as the Business Insider pointed out in a recent story, Americas top 5 exports at its number one container port at Los Angeles are all raw goods while the top 5 imports there are all manufactures made elsewhere.
Nikita Kruschev promised to bury the United States; he and others said we would end on the ash-heap of history. He didnt make it; but we seem to be taking care of it for him.
I wonder why?
President Obama will probably try to rename this country the United Soviet States of America. (USSA)
Yup. The difference is that a majority of the American electorate has chosen this. Idiots who support obastard such as Kosacks, DUmmies, et al deserve EXACTLY what is coming. Screw ‘em.
What about us? Well, we deal with reality and therefor see what is coming. Thus there is no valid reason for us not to do the following:
PREPARE.
Back in 1983, I just started 11th grade and KAL-007 was just shot down. I asked for discussion, mainly for “s-—s & giggles,” the question of, “what if in the future, the USSR became the US and the US became the USSR?” I added, “what if we ever became the role of the evil empire?” I was 17 then. I’ll be 45 in July and there are times I wonder if we will see the answer to my question.
We are SENDING EVERYTHING WE OWN TO CHINA.
Of course our country is collapsing.
“Free trade” is destroying it.
The old USSR had a thriving black market. The nomenclature was a joke. Our government is all powerful. We can't escape. They did.
progressives have controlled the schools at the federal level since the late 70s.
that’s when they got their hooks into your kids.
now, those kids are whiney little moochers demanding mommy fedgov give them more toys
i despise all these people
The Soviet Union was an irrational economic system, but more importantly, they simply had too much invested in maintaining the status quo.
Our system is not quite as economically irrational, but like the USSR, we have a highly complex and expensive system also trying to maintain the status quo. It will fail eventually.
Another reason I am glad I live in Texas. We have done it alone before, I imagine we will have to do it alone again.
