BATF Acting Director Melson resisting efforts to step down…Eager to testify
Island Turtle ^ | June 24, 2011 | Corky Boyd

The LA Times is reporting this incredible story in this morning’s edition. His resignation was rumored a week ago, last Friday and expected to take place Monday, then Tuesday then in the immediate future. The delay seemed to some to indicate his handlers at Justice might be having trouble convincing him he should fall on his sword to protect Attorney General Holder. Rep. Issa has publicly stated Justice had to know about the Fast and Furious program, since they had to approve the funding for it. .

Here is some of what the LA Times is reporting.

"The acting director of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is strongly resisting pressure to step down because of growing controversy over the agency's surveillance program that allowed U.S. guns to flow unchecked into Mexico, according to several federal sources in Washington."

The story continues with this quote from one of the Times’ sources:

"He is saying he won't go," said one source close to the situation, who asked for anonymity because high-level discussions with Melson remained fluid. "He has told them, 'I'm not going to be the fall guy on this.' "

Make sure he’s under oath when he does it.

I don’t think it’s gonna be so much a matter of falling as being pushed ;-)

You guys miss the point.

He’s not willing to be the fall guy.

He wants to testify.

He’ll name names of the people over him up the ladder who either came up with the plan or gave the word to expand it.

All good news

Issa needs to give him cover immediately.
This guy is asking for whistleblower protection and deserves the support of all real Americans.
God Bless him.

Where have we heard this before? Didn't Ron Brown make a similar statement not long before his untimely death?

Check out article.

No Sh__ite Melson! I hope you stick to your guns on this. Why anyone with half a brain would be willing to face prosecution or prison or loss of reputation, or whatever, to be a fall guy for Holder or 0dumb0 is beyond belief. But then for many if not most demoRAT socialist commie pigs, the advancement of marxist ideology & agenda & power is the holy grail and usually takes precedence over anything else, family, religion, blood, nationality, ethnic background, race, anything, including even prison terms. I think they will be counting on Holder & 0dumb0 to pardon any fall guys that take the rap on this.

When I read his bio at the agency website he doesn't look like a standard political appointee. He was an Assistant U.S. Attorney (that's a staff hire) during the Reagan years, an interim U.S. attorney (political appointee) under Bush 41 and Clinton, and in an executive position for the U.S. Attorney's Office under Bush.

Typically a political appointee knows he is supposed to fall on his sword when he gets the call. Even if he doesn't, he is going to have a huge ethical issue since moving contraband across a border is a real no no. He cut Dept. of State out of the loop. I know State can't keep a secret, but it still isn't done.

Didn’t I read a NBC news-reporter broke this story as some of the rank and file in the ATF thought the whole gun sales scheme was BS and risked their jobs coming forwarded with information. If the informers hadn’t said anything to this newswomen then government would have prosecuted the very gun store owners that the ATF approached and setup to sell guns to Mexicans along with deaths caused by the same guns.

And as we all know, guns and ammo are illegal in Mexico, the signs say so at the border entrances.

And stairwells, and windows. And planes and trains. And restaurants.

He needs protection.

That line of thinking wouldn't hold up in court and here is why.

What you have seen on the news is probably surveillance footage of the straw buyers coming out of the store with guns. In addition to that the case would have to be supported with audio from wires either in the store or on the dealer, acting as a confidential informant. Without those wires it is a lot tougher to make the case and if they were going after the gun dealer then they would need a warrant to plant the wire in his store without his consent.

Here is a more plausible line of thinking that is almost as bad. These dealers are in a business where the regulatory agency and the law enforcement agency are the same people. If they come to you and ask you if you will help with an investigation, what are you going to say? If you say no, would you be surprised if somebody started coming buy every week to check your books?

These dealers knew the score and were being coerced into playing.
