General Notes

*This list is by no means meant to be exhaustive. I tried to concentrate on companies that actually manufacture the guns themselves, rather than doing custom jobs on already-manufactured guns.
*A lot of these places seem to be 1911 and AR-15 knockoff producers, but tactical is the big thing right now.
*There seems to be a huge firearms culture in Connecticut, which brings New England up, if only marginally, in my estimation.
*Illinois, Land of Gun Grabbers, ironically houses several prominent firearms companies.
*Why aren't there more in the Deep South? Holdover from the Civil War, possibly?

In the industrial past, much of our manufacturing was quartered in the Northeast and in the northern Midwest. Colt, Remington, Smith and Wesson were all from the NE. Sort of inertia at work, although we may develop armsmaking in the South eventually.

Yeh - I’d love to be able to snag one of those. Little out of my price range, though.

As you note, we’re getting there. We could use some ammo factories.

There was some talk of an ammo manufacturer setting up shop in part of the mothballed army ammo plant on the grounds of the Stennis Space Center, between the Mississippi Gulf Coast and Slidell, Louisiana. Might've involved a research grant for polymer-cased 5.56 NATO cartridge development, or some such.

I'll have to ask around and find out if that ever moved forward.
