Canada's new favorite couple, Prince William and his new bride Catherine, are in the midst of enjoying their honeymoon tour of our nation. While some of us are following their travels with great enthusiasm and others with indifference, leave it up to the folks in the perpetually-complaining province of Quebec to cause a ruckus.
Normally I would ignore the droning of the French - we've all become so accustomed to it. However, one of the 'hard-done-by' protesters had a home made sign that cause great laughter in the Sullivan home:

Also, how in God’s name can one be a “moderate” separatist? Isn’t separatism, by its very nature, a hardline position to take?

Uh, no. Between the Congressional Black Caucus and La Raza, I think the US is right up there with Canada's endurance of the French Quebecois.

Leigh Patrick Sullivan, You will find that we American members of Free Republic may indeed know Canada better than you do.
On the whole it is fair to say we respect the Quebecois’ contributions to Canadian - and American - society, culture, trade, and industry, and we do not tolerate racism of any kind.
Among the artisan furriers of New York you will hear speak of the “Coureurs du Bois” and their legacy. Academic ‘linguists’ praise the purity of the Quebecois language. Architects admire Montreal and Quebec City. I do too.
This is not a situation akin to border-hopping illegals.
Quebec is a province whose hydro-electric capability and ingenuity powers almost all of the NE USA (including NYC.)
Former Quebecois are completely integrated as English speaking US citizens, proud tradesmen and merchants, from Maine to Florida. AMERICAN men and women.
Our servicemen are as likely as not to say “Bonjour” to a Canadian soldier in Iraq and Afghanistan.
So save your ridiculousness for the uneducated: Leigh Patrick Sullivan, here you are just a silly post-Loyalist racist.
