Great places to retire can be found outside of Florida and Arizona. In fact, many can be found outside of the U.S. entirely. Safe, attractive and affordable places to retire are scattered across the globe, from Latin America to Asia and even Europe. We've narrowed our list to eight overseas retirement hot spots.

Two factors critical to retirees (and their wallets) shaped our choices: cost of living and health care. To make our picks we consulted several experts on travel, tourism and overseas retirement, including Jennifer Stevens, executive editor of International Living, and Kathleen Peddicord, publisher of LiveandInvestOverseas.com. We also gave added weight to the cost of living, real estate and health care components of International Living's Global Retirement Index of the top 25 countries for retirees.

There are no foreign refuges. If this comes to pass, a new passage will have to be written in Stephen Kings “The Stand.”

Are there any places with no muslims? I would definitely consider that.

“Are there any places with no muslims? I would definitely consider that.”

So would I! I wonder if there are?

They are working themselves away from socialized health care because they know it does not work. The other problems I don’t see changing as of yet.

Wonder if I could learn to love living indoors for about 9 months out of the year? ;-)

Hey, they also have Mike Holmes. They say he is a national treasure.

I’m not letting that idiot chase me out of here! My Father, 6 Uncles and a host of other friends and family fought, some of them died to preserve our freedom. Leaving would be a huge let down to them.

What if America becomes a country we no longer recognize? Imagine what it will be like if Obama gets four more years. There will be a point of no return. Then what? Twenty years ago if anyone would have told me we would have men marrying men and women marrying women, I would have said “impossible”. If anyone would have told me The Pledge of Allegiance would cause controvery at city council meetings, I would have said “impossible”. If anyone would have told me we would have giant mosques all around America, I would have said “what’s a mosque”? Okay - kidding on that but I would have said “impossible”. If anyone would have told me our own government would be burning Bibles, I would have said “impossible”. If anyone had told me military chaplains couldn’t pray “in Jesus’ name”, I would have said “impossible”.

So you can see why I am worried about what will become of America in the near future, especially if Obama is re-elected.

I had to go to Chile for work onetime. Got off the plane and it was like 72 degrees with a nice breeze off the ocean. I thought to myself this is Southern California, but without all the people (and taxes).

I’m not going anywhere. I love this country. They will have to carry me out.

I agree with your “impossible” response. I just have a hard time wrapping my head around being chased off my property. Running, as it were. Your point is well taken however.

"I will not wring my hands and makes plans to run away like a pitiful little coward."

I heard the Redcoats said much the same thing way back when.

Canada is getting more conservative all the time.

I lived there for seven years. Cold eight months of the year in most provinces, expensive, their medical care is rationed, "human rights tribunals" will prosecute you for "wrong thinking" (just ask Mark Steyn,) PC foolishness even worse than the US...that's a start.

I love America. I would not want to live anywhere else, unless America becomes unrecognizable. However, if Obama gets his way, what will be left?
