Serious question: can the supposedly-very-smart Mayor Michael Bloomberg really be this foolish, or is there something else at work? Commenting on the outbreak of gun violence in NYC over the Labor Day weekend, in which 42 people were injured or killed, Bloomberg uttered [at least according to this report] not a word of condemnation directed toward the criminals themselves. Instead, the Big Appler blamed only the proliferation of guns and called for "stricter gun control laws".
What is it that drives liberals to condemn the instruments of crime, rather than the criminals themselves? Bloomberg quote after the jump.

That makes sense. The sort of criminal who would shoot total strangers at random or over "business" territory isn't deterred by the laws against assault with a deadly weapon or murder, but that's only because there aren't enough of the right laws, yet. It's time for a new approach - let's find out if new laws against that sawed-off fully automatic 12-gauge assault rifle revolver with high capacity newspapers and magazines will deter criminals - at least until we can build more midnight basketball courts.

But they ‘magically’ behave in the hands of police and military.

Hmmm... If Bloomberg is right, that there are "just too many guns on the streets" he can do something about it... Just disarm the cops! As mayor, he can order that. In one fell swoop, he could get 40,000 or more guns right off the streets!

It IS possible to get a gun and a permit to conceal in both New York state, and New York city. It’s extremely difficult.
Bloomberg views the urban mayhem as an exploitable crisis, exactly what he wants.
