The most important fact that has Democrats in Washington quaking in their boots is that thousands of Jewish voters discovered last night they could pull the R lever and not be struck by lightning.

Is there an explanation of why the two districts are so far off? Racial, maybe? (Not familiar with Queens or B’klyn.)

It’s a fact. I’m Jewish and I was working for Bush I in the 1988 election. I worked on my dad to vote for him and my dad said he would. On election night I called my dad and said “dad! your guy won!” He said “well, . . . “ I asked — Dad, do you mean you didn’t vote for him? He answered — “son, he worked for the FBI!” When I corrected him and said “dad, it was the CIA” his answer was “even worse!”
A Jewish democrat of my dad’s generation (he was a young man during the McCarthy era) just couldn’t bring himself to do it. I’ve never voted for a D for national office, so at least it’s not a genetic fate. But it’s a tough thing for some people to shake off. NY 9 is certainly a step in the right direction and it’ll make it easier for more Jews the next time. Not a moment too soon.

This is certainly a notable victory for the Republicans. I understand that the victorious candidate obtained a court order impounding the ballots. Apparently this helped prevent the dead from voting. All in all WONDERFUL!
By the way the victorious candidate was on Fox and seemed like a reasonable nice fellow.

Queens area of the district is LOADED with senior and/or nursing homes as well as “group homes”. Queens Co. RATS is a well oiled machine. Since I left Queens almost 10 years ago, I was NOT there yesterday. However, it was my experience when I DID live there that the RATS would bring school buses and vans full of inmates from these institutions to polling places and accompany them into the voting booths to “assist” them in casting their ballots.
Draw your own conclusions.

God bless your father. I guess the Jews just figured out FDR died a couple of years ago.

When I was a kid they used to call it the Solid South. A person with a southern accent didn't vote for a Republican. It took a president as bad as Jimmy Carter to make it OK for a Southerner to vote for a Presbyterian, Republican from California over a Baptist, Democrat from Georgia. And it took Obama to make it OK for New York Jews vote for a Catholic Republican over a Jewish Democrat.
Breaking out of the ethnic/regional voting habit is hard to do. But once done the first time, it becomes much easier the next time.

But the population of Jewish elderly in these areas is dying off rapidly..these were for the most part liberal Reformed Jews...same in south Florida...remember all those pics in 2000 of Lieberman campaigning in Florida..90% of all those in the photos are gone now..

Jewish voters were NOT the crux of my post. If anything, it was to contrast the Queens voters from the mainly Jewish B’klyn voters.

Indeed. Thank goodness a whole bunch of Jewish people are starting to wake up to the reality of 0bama’s anti-Jewish policies, and thank goodness the shock has been great enough to cause them to start pulling the “not-Democrat” lever. And you are absolutely right: after that first pull, subsequent ones become oh so much easier. Hopefully, after enough pulls, a lot of Jewish folks will start thinking like independents instead of like mindless Democrats.
