FOREIGN students here under student visas PAY OUT OF STATE TUITION.

You guys are charging Mexicans INSTATE TUITION.

You lose money on the transaction!

You know I really find it hard to believe that ANYBODY would be that stupid ~ so I assume you are being sarcastic. Here's a place to go to see the difference. http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg03_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=788

It is commonly the case that the states SUBSIDIZE the additional costs for students paying only in-state rates.

I know the children that are raised in Texa pay in-state tuition, muawiyah, PAY in-state tuition...you know like income receipts.

And yes I know that foreigners pay OUT OF STATE TUITION, you know, like income.

WHAT’S YOUR POINT??? DO YOU HAVE A FREAKING POINT?

There’s no subsidy for Texas schools, muawiyah...Texas schools run on their tuition and from private endowments. We also have our Lotto receipts that fund our C & U System, but that’s not state tax dollars. There’s also some oil revenue off state lands, but that’s not state tax dollars. There’s no STATE TAX MONEY SUBSIDY for in-state students. It doesn’t cost me a dime for any of these students to go to school.

http://www.thecb.state.tx.us/files/dmfile/201213LARSummary082310.pdf says you are full of it. I think the TOTAL legislative appropriation (the "subsidy") is something well over $1.7 billion (requested in 2010 for 2011/2012 school year).

That's just for higher education ~ in public universities and colleges.

I could not help but notice that the request included a substantial hunk of FEDERAL MONEY ~ and that's not Obama Dollars, that's my money you are tossing around there.

Your state's system of higher education is definitely subsidized by the legislature out of your tax dollars (AND MINE!) and the private endowment also does some subsidizing.

Don't tell you you didn't know this.

FEDERAL money going to Texas C & University systems??? Now I know you’re lying and making stuff up. Now there may be some schools in Texas operating off of FEDERAL GRANTS for some kind of special FEDERAL PROGRAMS that is used specifically for those programs. But it doesn’t apply to ever school. That doesn’t have anything to do with Texas state tax dollars. But NO, no federal dollars are allocated for our C & U Systems in Texas.

No, muawiyah, I know EXACTLY which dollars go to fund higher education in Texas and it is NOT tax dollars!

Now I already TOLD YOU that a portion of our Lotto Money and our state oil money fund goes to higher education. But neither one of those are TAX DOLLARS collected from Texans.

Their going to school does not cost me an extra dime.

http://www.thecb.state.tx.us/files/dmfile/201213LARSummary082310.pdf Read it in detail and weep. They count FEDERAL money in their accounting ~ as if Texas’ legislature has some authority over some sort of education grant to the state ~ so they want it for the universities. No, I didn’t make this up. It’s your peeps making their claims and there it is.

Yes, I know muawiyah, there are some campuses that have special programs funded with federal tax dollars...very special programs...you can’t co-mingle those grant funds, muawiyah...

Money is fungible. Doesn't matter HOW it gets into the university system ~ if it is there it displaces other funds, and mingles with them, and helps to subsidize the entire program.

So, Yes, ROWDYFCC you people are spending MY TAX DOLLARS on illegal aliens ~ and I'd like for you to STOP IT.

Do without all that mowed grass stuff ~ the drought killed it anyway! And chap tarts? You got plenty of them in Texas without any need to import more of them.

Muawiyah, fungible this...YOU CANNOT USE GRANT MONEY FOR ANYTHING BUT THE EXPRESS PURPOSE THAT IT WAS GRANTED TO YOU!

NOW STOP IT! YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT!

In the university's hands it's just money. Your grant in aid assists the university in paying its bills, in general.

Last year the state legislature made some serious cuts in aid to universities that resulted in hikes in the tuition rates. If the universities hadn't been getting subsidized by the state to begin with that wouldn't have happened ~ the tuition rates would have remained where they were.

Then there are the sunk costs in facility and infrastructure ~ they continue to generate deferred maintenance costs that will have to be paid someday ~ by the legislature ~ particularly the "historic" buildings on campus.

Then there are federally guaranteed loans ~ for students. Plus, those dollars come in from private bequests and from oil wells and from state lottery ~ they could be used elsewhere, or reserved for scholarships for individual American students. That'd drive those instate tuition rates right up the ladder.

You as a taxpayer pay for the government services more properly provided for out of the state lottery and the oil wells. Those private bequests to the various schools ALSO provide an income tax deduction for the person making the bequest and your tax rate makes up for that.

As we now know those folks should have invested in more job opportunities, not bailing out an overstaffed university. Consequently you end up paying for the additional unemployed people in Texas through your unemployment insurance fees (presuming you are a business), and if you are not a business, you should be ~ so you'd have a better understanding of how your income and property taxes came to be and your part in subsidizing the indolent, lazy and unworthy.

muawiyah, again you don’t know what you’re talking about. You cannot use federal grant money for anything but the purpose. Now I’ve gone over that with you before. I have worked and managed grant programs on UT’s nuclear reactor. YOU DO NOT USE FEDERAL GRANT MONEY FOR ANY OTHER PURPOSE! IT IS KEPT IN A SEPARATE SET OF SPECIFIC BOOKS, ALL OF IT.

You are remarkably stupid. You can use federal grant money for a specific purpose AND THAT FREES UP other money you have to use for a different purpose.

We, as Conservatives and RTL folks are battling Planned Parenthood on exactly that point. They claim they keep the federal bucks and the state bucks in separate accounts. Our claim is that all that does is allow them to use their other funds to kill more babies.

Right there in Texas, today, Planned Parenthood is giving up FOUR of its centers because we were right, and money is fungible, and they were using Texas state taxpayer money to enable them to kill more babies.

The 12 year old drop dead date is total BS. The vaccine works at any age provided you've still got an immune system.

The ol'gal writing about her daddy said "it works best", but this sucker hasn't been out there long enough to KNOW when it works best ~ if all they gave it to were 12 year olds, they're just now 17 or so, and NO ONE WOULD KNOW if it worked better or worse on 30 year olds.

As it turns out Merck, et al, test their vaccines on people of all ages and conditions ~ and that includes this one. They know, and they are NOT making this 12 year old argument.

I think people overly interested in 12 year old girls and sexuality ARE making the argument.

And that right there is a problem to be dealt with separately through the criminal justice system.

It's mostly his defenders on the Left who are making the arguments ~ on his behalf.

You did finally realize you are in bed with some really deep left types on this particular issue. This is the crowd who want to drop the age of consent to about 11 and then enable NAMBLA.

They love Perry for some reason.

The ARGUMENT is in the lead in to this thread. Since the reality is much different than the contention of the writer of the article, my response is hardly out of line.

muawiyah how remarkably stupid can you be? When you get a grant to build a new nuclear reactor, you can’t build a cow pen with it! You spend it on a new nuclear reactor! It doesn’t free up money for ANYTHING!

If you get a grant to run a new program on campus, you spend the money on the new program. You can’t spend on an old one you already started.

If you get a grant for a study for a new metallurgical procedure, you spend it on that procedure. You can’t spend it on anything else but a NEW procedure. It doesn’t free money up from anywhere...it is NEW SPENDING.

What is so hard about understanding the grant process?

My state gets $15 million dollar a year grant to spend for services to the blind. It cannot be spent for any other services and any leftover dollars are returned to the United States General Fund. You can’t spend it on the State Parks and Wildlife Service.

ALL THOSE FUNDS ARE AUDITED in SEPARATE SPECIFIC ACCOUNTS, every penny of it.

An audit and investigation caught Planned Parenthood CO-MINGLING THEIR FUNDS with no accountability for how it was spent!

Now, please, get out of my face because YOU have no idea what you’re talking about.

Having managed federal government contracts I will assure you I know what I'm talking about AND YOU DON'T.

Not sure what your angle is in this ~ maybe you have a couple of illegals living in a shed on your backporch or something, but whatever it is your degree of argument on this otherwise minor issue (whether or not Mexicans should be encouraged to GO HOME) suggests yours is definitely personal.

You're among friends. Go ahead and confess.

Having managed the finances for the Texas Commision for the Blind, including their State and Federal Plans and ALL of their outside contracts...having managed the federal grants at the UT School of Mechanical Engineering, I certainly DO know what I’m talking about!

Sorry, but I lack the illegal friends...only thing in my back yard is my home office.

Now you can confess to your stupidity any time you please, you’re among friends here. Step up!
