but they are enjoying their righteous indignation so much, you will ruin their fun. And besides, all of them are chomping at the bit to take those desirable mowing and vegetable picking and chamber maid jobs.......

Yep, I went from leaning Perry to desperating wanting Jim DeMint to run. Won’t vote for Oil Windfall Profit Tax Palin though.

Yep. Perry almost had me swayed until that statement being for illegal aliens getting in state tuition.

That is a Lib’s wet dream. Don’t need anymore of that.

I don’t think so.
He is dealing with a situation that is not entirely in his control and he is trying to make the best of it for the taxpayer at large.

I understand that it is viewed as a luring illegals.
The truth is very few people meet the admissions requirements.

“Perry turned off a lot of conservatives last night.”

Count me as one.

Not knowing Perry from Adam, I gave him 3 debates now to introduce himself to me and show me what he’s got. Conclusion – he has Nothing. He totally comes across as a buffoon, and the least prepared candidate on the stage. Even though he knew what questions were going to be targeted at him, his answers were horrible.

How he handled the in-state tuition question was shameless. It sounded like advice taken from the book, Rules for Radicals. “When under attack accuse the attacker of something more outlandish and indefensible (even if not true), taking the spotlight off you.” Accusing opponents of his policy as being heartless for not wanting children to have an education is just the sort of outlandish accusation that would make Saul Alinsky and Obama proud.

Then there was the 3 am question. How pathetic
Governor Perry, if you were president, and you go a call at 3 am telling you that Pakistan had lost control of is nuclear weapons, at the hands of the Taliban, what would be your first move?
PERRY: Well obviously, before you ever get to that point you have to build a relationship in that region. That’s one of the things that this administration has not done. Yesterday, we found out through Admiral Mullen that Haqqani has been involved with — and that’s the terrorist group directly associated with the Pakistani country. So to have a relationship with India, to make sure that India knows that they are an ally of the United States.”
And I don’t even want to think about the embarrassing ‘Romney is a flip-flopper’ answer that Perry gave because it was nearly unintelligible. Went something like this, “First he was against it before he was for something that he was against before, but now he is for it” I actually started feeling sorry for him on that one.

Christie would be a big hit with the NE RINO contingent but that's about it. He is no conservative, not even close.

Perrys position is that we are better off educating these kids than ignoring them.

Ignoring them? They're being ignored by their own countries.

It's a rewards program for law breakers. I'd rather offer incentives to US citizens...from other states...before offering it to the law breakers.

After his answer to the in state tuition question, he should be given credit for honesty, he has to be toast.

To nominate the elect him when knowing exactly where he stands on the issue of benefits for illegals would be to ask for his policies on a national level.

First of all, the issue is ILLEGAL immigration, NOT immigration. Don’t fall for the liberal tactic!

Secondly, Perry lost me last night. I was really pulling for him but his view on illegal immigration is unacceptable. I am not usually a one issue person but it appears he is SO bad on the issue that as far as that goes we may as well keep obama.

I am really disappointed. Nobody is perfect but this is really bad. It would be extremely difficult for me to turn around on this. Perry would have to have a complete shifty on this and it would have to be real. And what is worse is the condescending way he answered the question about in state tuition - saying you don’t have any heart if you don’t agree with him - with friends like that who needs enemies. I can go to dem underground to get THAT crap!

One thing we have to remember, at this very moment in 2008, the two leading candidates were Fred Thompson and Huckabee. We were not even thinking McCain as a serious contender at the time. Lots yet still to happen, and front runner can come and go.

The field of candidates that will enter the race is not yet filled out. The fact that Christie is being courted is testament to that, and if I read the papers right Daniels is still being courted to join in, no matter what his family says.

And if Palin gets in the mix, expect the fireworks to really start going off...................

I’d made a few attempts to convey Perry’s rotten history here in Texas on the border/illegals front, having followed him all these years. It’s always been my MAJOR sticking point with him, invariably offsetting some of the ‘good’ things he has done, like tort reform and voter-id.

But even I’ve been amazed to actually see him reveal himself so vividly with comments like “the sound of their last names” and “you have no heart.” That’s some REALLY, REALLY infuriating stuff. Basically referring to anyone who disagrees with him as heartless bigots. He’s often been on a knife’s edge with me over the years, but this pretty much did it.

That’s not necessarily true. Hate his Texas stance on illegals all you want, but he has consistently been a states right guy on all issues for a long time. He has also been against Washington dictating anything for a long time.
