Biden to Latinos: You were here first

Vice President Joe Biden compared immigration to the United States for Irish and Hispanic people — but noted Hispanic immigrants were here first.

Biden on Thursday hosted the annual Hispanic Heritage Month reception at the Naval Observatory. Guests included about 100 Hispanic veterans, active duty service members, elected officials and others. The music was classical Mexican.

"You all were here before us," Biden said, according to a pool report.

Biden noted his own background as the descendant of Irish immigrants, saying, “We come from a similar circumstance. It’s about family, it’s about faith and it’s about basic things."

The event coincides with a stepped-up effort by the administration to improve relations with Hispanic voters. Once among President Barack Obama's most enthusiastic constituencies, Hispanic support for the administration has flagged with the stall-out of immigration reform and other key priorities.

I guess the Norte Chico, Cahokia, Zapotec, Toltec, Olmec, Maya, Aztec, Purepecha, Chimor, Mixtec, Moche, Mississippian, Totonac, Teotihuacan, Huastec people, Tarascan, Izapa, Mazatec, and the Inca don't count in Biden’s mind.......or is that the vacuum between his ears and beneath his plugs.

Montezuma, with his primitive, superstious mindset, would have had Biden's head hung by its hair from pole......which wouldn't have worked out very well.

Parts of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California were, indeed, settled by people from Mexico prior to their loss of territory in the Mexican War.

Not true. The word settled is incorrect because the numbers of Spanish were very very very small. This was Indian territory. But of course large absurd claims for those lands were made. Anyone can claim anything under banner of the Pope of Rome (you can look that one up)  The fierce Apaches, Comanches and other Indians had the run of those lands. The Spanish cowered in their missions for the most part. Who finally subdued the Indians? The US Army.

No one knows who was here first. We know who the Europeans met when they arrived but we don’t know if they were first.

Yup, you all were here first having a good time. Life was sweet, until the Euro trash landed and screwed things up for everybody.

Latinos being “here first “ is sort of like evolution: you can’t prove it with witnesses because there aren’t any.

You are both correct that the number of Spanish was very, very small. Still, it was there, as evidenced by the missions which existed in 3 of the 4 border states before we arrived.

Truth be told, the vast majority of illegal immigrants can't trace their ancestry back to any of these Spanish. If they can trace it at all, it will be to those enlightened and highly civilized Aztecs who practiced human sacrifice, beheading of their captives and carving out still beating hearts.

This is what helped inspire the Apaches and Comanches on our side of the border to keep them out wherever possible.

There is no real Spanish history of the United States like there is a Black history and an Indian tribe history. In 1950 the total number of Hispanics in the Continental United States was about 1%. I am not including Puerto Rico and other off shore territories. Of those 1% you had some Puerto Ricans, Cubans, Dominicans who immigrated here

In that 1% you also had those famous old line Spanish families of New Mexico, Texas, fewer in Arizona and California who can truthfully claim “We did not cross the border. The Border crossed us”..... Where once they lived on land that the far away denizens of Mexico City “claimed”, after the 1848 US-Mexican war they now lived on American land, territories and states. My summation is that the Mexican and Hispanic influx started after World War Two. One should not be fooled by all those places with Spanish names in California and other SW states

Those old line Spanish families were (are) in fact 95-100% Spanish blooded. A while ago I met a woman from an old New Mexico family and she looked like she stepped off an airplane from Barcelona. It is not a secret anymore that the Mexican invaders we get these days are the Indians and semi-Indians of Mexico. They have little or no European culture drilled into them, why would they? They are proud to be indigenous here in USA but in Mexico and Central America they are at the bottom of the racist pecking order. It is only the dumb Anglo who accepts this invasion that we subsidize, that dispossesses our children. This transfer of Mexico indigenous population

“Bosniacs”?

LOL! I hadn't heard that one. Biden is a real clown. I don't know why he spent all that money on hair plugs. A multi-colored clown wig would have been a lot cheaper.
