Money: Finally something that can make Notre Dame’s president act like a Catholic priest

In 2009 Father John Jenkins the president of Notre Dame decided to invite Barack Obama a man with abortion support blood dripping from his hands to speak at the school’s annual commencement ceremony.

At the time genuine Catholics around the country including Catholic bishops pleaded with the “stiff necked” Jenkins not to honor a man who is the very embodiment of opposition to Catholic teaching on the sanctity of life.

Jenkins was not only unmoved but elected to award Obama an honorary J.D. which was hardly necessary. Moreover when 88 Catholic protestors including at least two priests knelt on the grounds of the university which is dedicated to the Blessed Mother (Notre Dame literally means Our Lady) Jenkins ordered they be arrested for trespassing. For two years Jenkins refused to drop the charges until he was smacked in the head by the fury of his alumni’s decline in giving.

One need not be a Catholic to understand the anger and embarrassment Catholics felt at this outrage; but alas for most of us there was little choice but to accept it (I personally mailed my treasured ND cap back to Jenkins telling him it should be worth about thirty pieces of silver on Ebay).

Now Jenkins is crying about his good buddy Barack tricking him. The cache Jenkins bought Obama with his sell out of Catholic teachings was used by the media to insist that it meant Catholics would not protest the abortion services Obamacare mandates in ALL private healthcare insurance packages, even those offered by Catholic institutions.

Why has this worm turned?

The sad short answer is money.

“…..having Obama speak and arresting the “Rosary” protestors has cost the school dearly. From a high of 46.2%, an alumni giving has fallen to only 37%.....

Some people HAVE to have their nose rubbed in it to do the right thing, but for some people even that isn't enough.

"One need not be a Catholic to understand the anger and embarrassment Catholics felt at this outrage"

I would fall into that category.

From a high of 46.2%, an alumni giving has fallen to only 37% participation.

That's about a 20% drop. Could it be due to the economy or are people actually standing up for a moral principle?

I have never understood a Catholic or a Jew voting Democrat...so hypocritical...

In last 5 (at least) Pres. elections, Catholics voted 52%, 53%, up to 58% Democrat.

I dont understand, but I am glad they are slowing their donating to ND since the Obama visit...

While I don’t doubt that the decision not to give was a moral one for many people, I would guess that sort of drop in donations is typical at most private schools over the past few years.

Maybe that visit had something to do with this!

Yep it was a victory run. But let the word go out and stop the CCHD and the Saul Alinsky tactics fail in the lime light.

He shouldn't have remained in his job for the act of uttering the idea out loud, to say nothing of his actually extending the invitation and his fascistic trespassing charges.

As a Christian Protestant, I was also angry at what Jenkins was doing. Why is he still getting a paycheck?!

Sadly, Jenkins is not the only problem. The University's Board, composed largely of fat-cat alumni faux-Catholic lay people, elected Jenkins to another term AFTER after he had turned his back on Catholic teachings and celebrated an unashamed and relentless advocate of child killing—quite literally a modern Herod. And the reappointment came at a time Jenkins was still insisting the the Christian witnesses who had embarrassed him be hounded, prosecuted, imprisoned, and bankrupted for their pro-life witness. Jenkins is the despicable spawn of an equally despicable Board of Directors.

The truth is out about the islamic communist puppet doing everything that he can to destroy Christianity. And we don’t like those false Christians bribed into the destruction either, and will not support the bribed or the islamic bribers.
