Shepard Fairey, L.A. Street Artist, Designs Party Invite for Occupy Wall Street

A West Coast legend does his part.

Yup. This just happened. Right after receiving the victorious news from New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg that Occupy Wall Street doesn't have to move out of Zuccotti Park after all, protest organizers learned they'd been blessed with a Shepard Fairey original.

An East Coast art-blog editor who's been keeping up with the artistic aspects of OWS (and oh, there are many -- in L.A. too!) told WNYC radio of Fairey's "Occupation Party" invite: "I think it's really great that it's an upward looking positive image, as well as it tries to tie together a little bit of the radicalism of the 60's with today."

Indeed -- Fairey's apparently still on his strong-black-person-gazing-majestically-into-the-heavens kick. But will his (very kind) contributions to the movement revive the Obama "Hope" curse?

Fairey's portrait of the president lured millions of huddled hipsters to the voting booths in 2008. But after many of them decided he's just as useless as the next paid-off politician -- seeing as, you know, the sky didn't rain down free pot and iPads -- the "Hope" symbol took on a new cheesy patriotism.

Now, Obama has a twin Fairey print to prop next to his own in the oval office. (If you squint your eyes, the cloud-gazer even looks a little like Michelle!) Hopefully some Angela Davis photographer won't sue him for this one.

The event advertised beneath our beloved Echo Park street artist's latest tribute to social change is a protest/fest this Saturday evening, October 15th, in Times Square:

"Hundreds of cities across the country will host demonstrations in support of the #Occupy movement. In New York City, dozens of community groups, unions, student organizations and lots and lots of regular folk are taking to the streets in a mass protest that will culminate in Times Square at 5pm, then moving (by train party!) downtown." Partygoers are instructed to wear pure white, because "in many cultures dressing in white is a symbol of hope and transition. Think: white suits, dresses, face-paint, glitter, balloons, banners, be inspired."

Sounds pretty beautiful, actually. We've contacted Occupy L.A. to see where our branch of the party will take place. Down for a masked appearance, Fairey? Street artist Saber's definitely been one-upping you on the local-involvement front.

Somebody needs to do a parody of the Obama poster where it’s a headshot of Andre the Giant and the word “PEANUT?”

I just want to know why the cops are powerless against those twiggy miscreants.

Didn’t Fairey do the original Zero poster?

Yes, yes he did. Which just goes to show you who is behind this “Occupy XXX” scheme.

Doesn’t the woman in the poster look like Angela Davis?

Fairey stole the image from an AP photograph and was sued for the theft.

My first thought also. I’ve got a feeling old Shemp is going to get sued again.

Didn’t she buy guns used in a robbery and murder?

On August 7, 1970 Jonathan Jackson, a heavily armed, seventeen year old African American high school student gained control over a courtroom in Marin County, California. Once in the courtroom, Jackson armed the black defendants and took Judge Harold Haley, the prosecutor, and three female jurors as hostages.[16][17]

As Jackson transported the hostages and two black convicts away from the courtroom, the police began shooting at the vehicle. The judge, one of the jurors, the prosecutor, and the three black men were killed in the melee. Davis had purchased the firearms used in the attack, including the shotgun used to kill Haley, which had been purchased two days prior and sawed-off.[17] She had also written numerous letters found in the prison cell of one of the murderers.

Oho, so she's the one handing out the useless degrees the OWS 99-percenters are going $80,000 into debt for and can't find jobs afterwards.

Obama’s Venomous Artist-Fundraiser

exerpt:

The political messages in Fairey's art are:
1) Communist dictators are god-like supermen
2) The United States is a police state at home and an imperialist oppressor abroad
3) Capitalism is an evil system based on greed and exploitation
4) Ordinary Amerikkkan workers are guilty of blithely supporting an unjust system
5) The only good Americans are those who fight The System
6) The communist Peoples' Armies will soon triumph over Amerikkkan imperialism and bring peace to the world out of the barrel of a gun.

Also looks like Michele giving the black power fist salute at the election party. She was also wearing that red and black “black widow” dress. Black and red being the colors for the anarchists.

Most of these protests are white kids. I see they are trying to expand the market. Wasn’t it Charles Manson that was trying to the blacks involved in the 60’s protests?
