George Will: Cain not running, but 'strolling' for president
Daily Caller ^ | Oct 16, 2011 | Jeff Poor

Posted on 10/16/2011 12:21:48 PM PDT by Clairity

Despite businessman Herman Cain's stunning rise in the polls, conservative columnist George Will said Sunday that Cain does not merit serious attention from President Obama's reelection campaign.

Will said on ABC's "This Week with Christiane Amanpour" that Cain has not shown that he has staying power and that without a traditional campaign infrastructure, it's not clear that he is a serious candidate.

"We're having a kind of Andy Warhol primary where everybody is leader for 15 minutes and Cain's turn today but it's not clear that Cain has staying power," Will said. "He's not running for president, sort of strolling for president without an infrastructure. It's pretty and cute and nice but whether or not it works we can be doubtful."

Will said that President Obama's campaign strategy will be to go after the Republican candidate because his administration's "record isn't particularly appetizing."

Is it fair to say that neither side has the slightest clue as to why their candidate is worth voting for?

Cain is supposedly not serious.

Perry is supposedly not serious.

Romney is just a RINO.

All of the other people are non-contenders.

Do you know any inside info regarding this? Of so, please share.

What does that tell me? Nothing. People quit and or get fired all the time. Funny how the press secretary quit after Cains jump in the polls.

Perhaps the press secretary thought Cain actually has a shot at POTUS and couldn’t handle it.

Did she quit or did she leave by mutual agreement.

Folks first say that Herman Cain doesn’t have the right infrastructure to win and then when he upgrades his staff they say Mr. Cain’s not interested in being President.

Yes, I do believe I will pin my hopes on Herman Cain.

That one was not quite as interesting as Perry’s Deputy Finance Director quitting right before his the fund raising numbers were released. Makes you wonder what was in the report she didn’t want to have anything to do with...

Speaking of dancing clowns, I sure miss the recent hilarity of George “Will Of The People,” temporary populist, followed by “Fight The Power” George Will, anti-establishment street fighter. I do believe he even bought a daring new bowtie during that phase.

Now it’s back to ho-hum normal in Willville now that mighty Palin has bowed out. Same old, same old. She really had him all sweaty, tongue tied and just generally tied up in knots.

Cain is growing on me. I don’t dislike Perry, he is ahead of Romney, Paul, and Huntsman, so he’s not my least favorite. But he is pretty far down the list.

I understand that you can’t fence the Rio Grande River. But Perry uses that to dismiss the notion of fencing the rest of the border that isn’t river bank.

The campaign is early yet, so there is still time for Perry to get his footing.

I’m looking for the guy who understands that to balance the budget we need energy independence and we need to bulldoze whatever phony regulations get in the way of that. I think Perry does understand that very clearly. So he’s not the worst one up there by no means. And as governor he has actual governing experience.

So those are his pluses.

So he should focus his fire on Obama, who is the real opponent here, rather than wasting lead going after the other guys on the GOP stage. Cain knows Obama is the enemy. Romney thinks the other candidates are his enemies and his supporters have spent an enormous amount of energy going after folks like Palin and any other Repub they thought was in their way. Perry keeps falling into the same trap. When he extracts himself from that trap he’ll be a serious contender in my view.

Absolutely, Cain interviewed very well, avoiding the typical LSM loaded questions and trip-up attempts.

MNJohnnie— If anything about your black helicopter conspiracy theory was correct, you wouldn’t see the GOP establishment turn on Perry with so much viciousness. And if you really think that Michele Bachmann had a chance of defeating Romney, much less Obama, with or without Perry in the race, do you also see Russia from your back yard?

These questions are the reason ALL OF IT should be transparent to us voters.

I had no idea about the press secretary quitting. Perhaps it wasn’t such a big deal. I would like to know the details. I’ll try to do a little searching.

Attacking the messenger and not the message is an age old way of deflecting unwanted attention.

I hope Perry can improve his thinking on his feet - if we were a better talker he’d probably be at the top of the polls right now.

No but Cain’s has a proposed agenda is solidly Conservative. Cain personal and political background is solidly Conservative

Kind of a neat little circular argument you have set up there. No once can have a record unless they have been elected to office before. Therefor anything Cain does you will simply dismiss since it does not fit your criteria for “a record”.

George Will to Christine Amanpour:

“He’s not running for president, sort of strolling for president without an infrastructure. It’s pretty and cute and nice but whether or not it works we can be doubtful.”

In other words he hasn’t attended the proper parties and bowed and scraped to the proper people and asked George to dinner. It makes me like him all the more.

Explain to me how this article has anything to do with what you posted in the first comment.

You would do your side a lot of good if you convinced them to drop the Romneybot campaign tactics of slandering all the other candidates and get them to focus on trying to convince us why we should be FOR Perry.

I’d rather vote Romney than Perry at this point.. at least he doesn’t have to get his wife out there crying for him about how badly “we” treat him.. pathetic

And the vile turn many Perry supporters have taken, in desperation I suppose, makes me question Perry himself. What kind of candidate would have this type of supporter?
