Several readers alerted us to a forum thread at Survivalist Boards that centered around an individual named Selco who spent several years in a city setting during the complete collapse of Bosnia circa 1992. Selco describes the experiences and the survival strategies that he, his family and his community used to stay alive. Many forum members chimed in on the conversation and asked questions of Selco, who took the time to provide vivid details to an interested survival community.
The following compendium of the most popular questions and answers from the forum thread has been provided by Chris Kitze of well known alternative media web site Before Its News. Its a long read, but well worth your time.

Preppers Ping!
read
marked,thanks
One of the response I see posted to preparedness threads is, well if its Gods will and he has called forth the Apocalypse all your prepping wont do you a bit of of good, well to that I say DUH!
I am very aware that if its the great end that there is nothing I can do to stop or change it, but history is full of instances and times when man or nature have caused such a calamity that people have cried out and begged God to end it all.
The bible has many verse such as this:
A prudent man sees danger and takes refuge, but the simple keep going and suffer for it.
NIV Proverbs 22:3
This verse and others are there for a reason and I urge all to take heed of them, because we are clearly on the edge. Everyday there is a new story about the Yutes who grow more restless everyday and when you add the fact that because of the economy people are already on edge it wont take much to set things off.
Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: The Siege of AR-558 (#7.8) (1998)
Quark: Let me tell you something about Hew-mons, Nephew. Theyre a wonderful, friendly people, as long as their bellies are full and their holosuites are working. But take away their creature comforts, deprive them of food, sleep, sonic showers, put their lives in jeopardy over an extended period of time and those same friendly, intelligent, wonderful people... will become as nasty and as violent as the most bloodthirsty Klingon. You dont believe me? Look at those faces. Look in their eyes.
Today we have yutes who roam our streets who are with out morals, without respect for law or life itself. They will look are you with the same doll eyes a shark does before he eats you and they will feel no more compassion than the shark does.
That will be the test of many. Most preppers I know are Christian people and they will hesitate to do what they might have to do to stop the yutes. On the other hand the yutes wont think twice nor lose a minute of sleep, in fact they will smile and laugh about it.
For those who are just starting or are old hands at prepping you may find my Preparedness Manual helpfull. You can download it at:

For those of you who havent started already its time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.
If you like to read more about what SHTF in Bosnia was like take a look at this post on Bosnia War Survivor Selcos Blog at:
There is no greater disaster than to underestimate danger. Underestimation can be fatal.
As the LDS say When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.
This was posted a couple of weeks ago. I didn’t sleep very well after reading this man’s very dramatic and scary war time account. I am not prepaired for SHTF.
Bumping the thread!
Great post. Utterly fascinating!
You better get ready.
The Coming Paradigm Shift Will Result in Riots, Starvation and Bloodshed
Thanks.

No one is ever fully prepared. You just do what you can and hope and pray.
You are right though I think the thing that struck me the most about Selco’s story as how he talked about how normal things were right up to SHTF and then things went down hill so very very fast.
Antibiotics. How does one stock up on those whithout prescriptions? Or is he referring to Neosporin?
Many people are recommending veterinary supply houses.
ah, thank you.

I'm always reminded of that old joke about the guy on top of his house during a flood and asks God to help him. A boat comes by but he refuses saying God will provide. Then A helicopter comes but again he refuses help saying God will provide. He dies and angrily asks God why didn't He help. God replies that He sent a boat and a helicopter.
It depends where you live. Bulk items such as beans and wheat are difficult for some of us to obtain.
Here in Tampa there are places which sell bulk beans but Costco is about the cheapest. You can also get crappy bulk rice at Costco (or Sams). Oriental markets sell bulk rice of higher quality.
If you live on the western part of the US you can order wheat and have it shipped fairly cheaply. Here on the east coast it costs $50 for 50lbs of wheat and another $50 for shipping. Except for Honeyville which charges flat rate for your whole shipment.
If you want to buy it already packed for long term storage than you are pretty much stuck paying the hostage rate. I pack my own so I know whats in the bucket.
