For those of us that spend hours online, writing, blogging and reporting this judges decision is a serious additional threat to our freedom of expression. Citizen journalism, blogging, micro-blogging, it doesn’t matter what you call it. It is a form of journalism that isn’t controllable by the elite establishment. Expect more attacks as we continue to tear down the corrupt infrastructure known as the lame stream media. Here is the a wire service report about the decision: A federal judge in Portland, Ore., has ruled that a Montana blogger was not a journalist when she posted online that an Oregon lawyer acted criminally while a trustee in a real estate bankruptcy case...Read More

I take it “journalists” are licensed by the government?

I agree. Journalists do one on one interviews with people like Trump, Gingrich, Clinton etc. Most 'bloggers' don't. I hate seeing blog opinion pieces in news when they should be in the blogger forum. jmo

Having said that, a lot of so called journalists today do such a lousy job that they are really just glorified bloggers, that get air time. jmo.

I think it depend a lot on whether the blog was really being used to report news or information about any topic or whether it was being used as an online billbord to spouts lies and rants. A guick glance an the last month’s posts would be sufficient to tell the difference.

Presumably then, neither were the pamphleteers of the early republic... unfortunately the news comes more than 200 years too late to help the likes of Adams, Madison or Jefferson.

I guess one persons opinions are worth more than another persons opinions. That is what this judge has ruled, and as such, should be grounds for his removal from the bench.

By that definition the democrat party should be banned.

Reporters get their credentials from the media they work for. There is no government “journalist” license. Anyone I think can start up a news blog and report things or lie or do whatever. The media lies to us all the time. What determines a journalist? Being employed by some media outlet? Look at those supermarket tabloids. You think they’re telling the truth? “Alien Robot Found In Obama’s Bathroom In The White House” - since I wrote it, it’s not factual but if the Washington Post wrote it, it would be.

Voting, telephoning your congress-crittur, demonstrating is all fine as far as it goes—not far—but blogging is what our pseudo-reps in the district of criminals, and elsewhere, HEAR and FEAR!!!!!

Now is the time for all reaL Americans (Not AINOs) to go online, get a free blog, and start blogging daily!

Why do you think “they” are doing their damndest to get rid of us, and the entire internet for that matter—the I’Net is practically all that is left of that “gd piece of paper,” as one noted politician put it, and our Bill Of Rights, as well.

Another fear tactic to shut us up. Say anything about anyone and they’ll get you for libel or slander, or anything they want! A lawyer’s heyday!

NO ONE REQUIRES CREDENTIALS TO SAY, SPEAK, PRINT, DISPLAY THEIR OPINION! This is the essential core of free speech!

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

This "judge" just turned the 1st Amendment on its head... and said that SOME of the people are different than others of the people... and must meet some kind of "litmus" test to have freedom of speech or the press. All it takes to be a member of the press is a press, or an alternate means of publication! There is NOTHING different about this blogger and the New York Times, ABC News, or any other purported news source. All of them are private sources of opinion and information resting their right to speak and publish on the protection of that RIGHT of the 1st Amendment. This judge should be impeached for suborning the constitution! He clearly is a statist!

I absolutely agree!

This case really hasn’t been brought up by many people, but I think it is a very dark presaging of what may be to come as blogging and online journalism becomes more of a threat to established interests ..Government/Unions/Corporations/Politicians
