A number of prominent pro-life leaders say yes and are taking issue with the organization's recently published International Position Statement on abortion. Admittedly, while The Salvation Army continues to affirm that "all people are created in the image of God and therefore have unique and intrinsic value" and that "human life is sacred," a number of pro-life leaders are concerned over statements in the document that appear to contradict that basic assertion.

The Salvation Army hasn’t been 100% pro-life for years.
They make the same exceptions Billy Graham and most of the GOP do: Baby-killing is OK in the cases of rape, incest and the life of the mother.
Yes.
I posted this a few weeks ago. This organization WILL NOT get $$$ from me. I will be supporting St Vincent dePaul instead.
Affirm, schmafirm. The president swore to uphold a document that contains much the same language even as Planned Parenthood's checks to his campaign fund were clearing.
I wish I could articulate how rigorous LDI screens the orgs it lists on it’s “dishonorable mention” list, but suffice it to say, they don’t puts around. The non-profits on that list truly do support PP, and the Salvation Army is on their list.
What a sham the SA is. I hope, like Susan G Komen, the word gets out & their name is mud until they cut their ties with Big Abortion.
I’m very sorry to hear this. No more donations.
Freep-mail me to get on or off my pro-life and Catholic List:
Please ping me to note-worthy Pro-Life or Catholic threads, or other threads of general interest.
What do your sources say about this??
I was just about to ping you on this but ya beat me to it!!
This is exactly like the newsweeklies’ articles about how phony Easter is, or how Christmas is based on myth — not least because of the timing.
The S.A. works closely with the United Way in many cities, providing office space and personnel to disburse needed funds. However, in many cities, the SA competes for contracts to supply probation oversight and counseling for the local penal systems.
Where there’s government money and opportunity, there are layers of people seeking to control it to personal advantage, just like any other church, organization, business or political group. Social issues become a part of that political/monetary influx.
The SA is made up of enlisteds and “civilians” and it can get quite complicated. They really do a lot of good and it’s a shame that they seem to be beholden to sources.
:)
Could this be a homosexual-based smear campaign designed to suppress donations?
Cheers!
Salvation army is the most efficient major charity around.
No charity is perfect...and how many pregnancies are the result of rape or incest or threaten the mother’s life? Something less than 1 percent, I bet.
Many solidly pro-life thinkers also accept of the (real) life of the mother exception too (even if the Roman Catholic church does not).
If you hold out for the perfect charity...you may have to stop giving to any, even to yourself!
Good point.
The SA also says it’s alright to kill unborn babies with abnormalities.
