Why are Pastors 'Laying Hands' on Rick Santorum in TX?

Santorum may be capturing the attention of Christians and their leaders.

WHY WERE PASTORS ‘LAYING HANDS’ ON RICK SANTORUM IN TX?

(THE BLAZE) -- Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum stopped in McKinney, Texas, earlier today, where he met with evangelical faith leaders. During their time together, the pastors and congregants “laid hands on” the candidate and prayed for him, as can be seen in the below image: (see image at: http://content.clearchannel.com/cc-common/mlib/2135/02/2135_1328806795.jpg Pastors praying around GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum) The New York Times reports:

Santorum, a Catholic, is said to have performed very well among evangelical Christians in these three states. His conservative views on gay marriage, abortion and a multitude of other issues, make him a prime candidate for more right-leaning, socially-conservative voters. The New York Times reports:

All three states that held contests Tuesday have very conservative Republican electorates that are believed to include large numbers of the sort of evangelicals and Tea Party adherents who had flocked to Mr. Santorum’s candidacy in Iowa. It was a turnabout from four years ago, when Mr. Romney won in Colorado and Minnesota as the so-called conservative alternative to the man who became the Republican nominee in 2008, Senator John McCain.

So it seems Santorum may be capturing the attention of Christians and their leaders. When it comes to his meeting with pastors, some who fall outside of the Christian realm may have been confused to see Santorum standing with his head bowed surrounded by numerous pastors with outstretched hands on his shoulders.

This practice, known as the “laying on of hands,” is a form of worship during which numerous believers come around an individual and offer up prayers for him or her. The significance is both symbolic and literal, as the Holy Spirit and blessing are sought for the subject of the group prayer.

People don’t understand that being a Texan is a lifestyle, not just a word :) (even for us Texans in exile in Nebraska!)

Because we do that down here; primarily in Charismatic/Pentecostal churches.

We do that in our Methodist Church all the time. Primarily for healing.

Indeed, it makes me sad.

Matthew 18:20

“For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

It must be said that they are praying to the God of the Bible in the name of the Jesus Christ of the Bible, the King of Kings and Lord and Lords who now sits at the right hand of the Father. That Jesus is not the Jesus of the Book of Moron.

"Obozo has declared War on ALL Christians, Jews and some other faiths. It is the Duty of “We the People” to remove him in the November Election."

It ought to be obvious that "Obama Care" is but one salvo against faith and conscience. This man is a genuine Marxist, just as Rush had the courage to say on one of his broadcasts (few others will openly say it on the air).

Biblical Christianity and Marxism cannot blend. Liberation Theology can blend with some forms of Christendom that do not hold the Scriptures as the Final Authority. But very much, say most, of Christendom is not true Christianity, not Biblical Christianity. Marxism (a component of Liberation Theology) must oppose Christianity and all that principally has to do with God.

Obama's recent professions of Christianity are deceitful. Many even on FR think it is incorrect to judge a man's profession of faith, but that in itself, failure to walk circumspect and judge all things by the Scriptures, is not Biblicist Christianity.

We will repeat : Obama is an enemy of the Christian Faith ; he is antichrist, moved and dominated by the god and prince of this world, Satan.

This didn’t just start with Jesus. Jews in the O.T. did it too. It is an old and venerable tradition in the church.

This article was obviously written by someone totally unfamiliar with religious practices.

I did too. I hope the candidates sponsored by the Lord at all levels of political office races have this type of prayer and annointing.

I don’t know who the Lord is annointing, so I vote we pray for all of them! The other thing to consider is that imho when we pray for all our candidates, even the ones not sponsored by the Lord, it brings the Lord closer into their consciousness, being, and world, so that He can better work His will through them, whatever that may be. That way in the end we’ll be correct in ratifying the Lord’s work! :-D

(I vigorously tell the Lord whom I think He should be sponsoring, but then at the end of our conversation, I ask that only His will be done...and mean it!)

I travelled to TX a couple of years ago to be with a cousin who was having a very serious operation - he had a tumor that was goose egg size or bigger in his head. The risk of the operation was that he could die on the table, have a ‘stroke’ from blood being cut off during the operation, etc. His ‘small’ church group, mostly the choir members & a lot of them are fierce “prayer warriors”, met on Saturday night (operation on Monday) for food, fellowship and prayer. At the very end of the evening, everyone gathered around my cousin and layed a hand on him (including myself) and we all prayed ..... All I can tell you is that I felt a SURGE of POWER up my arm .... almost like an electrical current but not that ‘tingly’ .... it was very warm .... and very powerful. I immediately felt as if someone had walked up behind me and wrapped me in a warm, comforting blanket and I had an absolute feeling of peace and security.

Long story shorter, the OR was scheduled for 6 hours minimum - the surgeon came out in 3 and told us it was all over. The tumor more or less “popped out” .... no breaking of the jaw necessary, no cutting off blood supply, no facial paralysis ... and it looked benign. When my cousin’s wife mentioned to the surgeon that people all over the world had been praying for my cousin (we have relatives in Europe & some were in Australia at the time), the surgeon gave us all the most beautiful smile and said “I could tell”.

So - prayer works. Laying on of hands is a powerful thing. I’m praying daily if not hourly for the country and for those who want to lead her out of the darkness that we’ve fallen into. God BLESS America - we need Him more than ever.

Just checking, but you're not saying he is The Antichrist, but one of the many antichrists we have been warned about?

I have been praying for godly men and women to rise up from among us to become our leaders and turn our country away from its current path. You don’t have to be a Santorum or Gingrich or even a GOP member to want to see this.

If God had chosen Palin or Perry or Bachman or Cain as His chosen for this time, I would be happy with that too, I believe all of them, to some extent, are Christians with a heart for God’s word and purpose.

As much as some of us derided Bush, I have no doubt about the man’s faith and I have no doubt that prayer was a key factor in winning the Iraq War. I want someone of faith in the White House but I also want more of those people in the House, the Senate, the state houses and the city councils.

No, I’m not looking for a theocracy. I’m looking for humble servants of both God and man that will seek His wisdom and direction so that we may better know His blessings.

Obama is antichrist ; a product of The Antichrist's system ; I did not say that Obama is THE Antichrist (the man of sin ; son of perdition).

Obama, as a child of the devil sure favors him, though ; I mean it DOOOO come awful close some times.

As an Army Chaplain, my of the chaplains and the lay pastors in the many communities I served were black. Most of them were among the most conservative Christians I’ve ever met. (One Baptist pastor preached at a funeral I attended the best funeral sermon on grace that I’ve ever heard.)

Other black pastors and chaplains are among the most liberal I’ve ever met. One of the odd things about theological liberals is that they don’t believe the bible is really the word of God. I say that because they reject many of the books as authoritative, and they then define the remainder as “myth”. (A myth might teach a good moral, but it is not considered an historical account.)

In the same way they “practice” Christian things because that is the “form” that is “traditional”. I suspect that this explains Jeremiah Wright.

Many of these pastors in this photo might well have been solid, bible-believing pastors who truly do want God to overcome the decisions of the president by leading him instead to right decisions. They could have been a mixed group. They could have been a cluster of Jeremiah Wright clones.

Considering the secular, anti-Christian nature of the “media,” I’m not a bit surprised at their lack of understanding about the “laying of hands.”
