I suspect he was told by his lawyer he crossed the line when he used the term Prostitute. Slut is a matter of opinion, Prostitute implies one breaking the law.

I suspect he was told by his partners that he was costing them money. I had a large number of sponsors drop out in a single day, that’s the beginning of an avalanche that had to be stopped.

I don't mean to make this a religious thing, but I will make a religious analogy:

A long, long time ago, the Roman Empire persecuted Christians. They just wanted Christians to bow down and declare the Emperor as a god. That's all. Do that, and you can go home and live your life.

A lot of Christians would not do it. They would not trade Eternity for a few more years of life on this planet. The Romans wouls show them lions, crosses, fires, many unpleasant things and say -- "Just bow down. This can be easy or it can be deeply unpleasant." And many Christians decided to choose the harder path.

I do not understand why, today, someone isn't standing up and saying, "I was visited by an agent of the government. He threatened me. He threatened my family. He mentioned Jack Wheeler, Andrew Breibart. He mentioned JFK. He said I had to do as he said or I would suddenly decide to kill myself. He said that my suicide would be in the papers for a few days but no one would question it. I'm hear to blow the cover off how our government does business."

No one has ever had the courage to say that.

Maybe because their is no conspiracy. Maybe people are just weak. Maybe Rush likes having sponsors and a big income. Maybe he's willing to sacrifice principles so that he can have the lifestyle he's become accustomed to.

If that is the case, the question is does the right have the balls to play in that game too?

By using the term “Slut”, Rush was just using the language of the left.

Between the Huffington Post, DU, the Daily KOS, and countless other liberal websites and hosts, there are literally tens of thousands of instances of those sites and their members calling people on the right “Sluts” (or much worse).

I wonder if any of these advertisers plan to pull their advertising from, for example, the Huffington Post?

Not just political websites and shows. How many of these advertisers sponsors shows like The Jersey Shore, the Real Housewives of XX, etc? These are common terms thrown around on these shows.

He must have received the warning you refer to. In fact he led off the Friday show talking about it. I doubt he would ever spend so much time on a suspicious package (but "chilling") that turned out to be harmless if there weren't something else to this story.

To the rats and the MSM, it makes no difference what Rush does or doesn't say. He is evil personified in their eyes and they'll never stop looking for ways to shut him down. Rush executed a narrowly crafted strategic retreat on the 'slut' issue in order to fight on another day.

Behind the scenes, incredible pressures were brought to bear on Rush by his syndicator, broadcast stations and advertisers. While we'd all like to see a constant 'straight ahead' approach, expediency and wisdom sometimes dictates a minor course correction.

1. I have it from a good source Rush had his fingers crossed when he apologized which cancels out the apology.

2. On another subject: I personally thought Jack Wheeler was poisoned, but I never read a conclusion to the case. Maybe I missed it. Can someone please fill me in?

Clear Channel told Rush that he needed to apologize because he crossed the line. Money is the bottom line. They lost a few so so clients that wouldn’t be who they are today without Rush. They didn’t want to lose anymore. I’m as big of a Rush fan as they come but I believe that yelling “slut” left and right lowered Rush down to a liberal level.
