NFL Quarterback Phillip Rivers endorses Santorum (AL Native)

San Diego Chargers quarterback — and Alabama native — Philip Rivers announced Thursday that he would endorse Rick Santorum in the state's presidential primary, praising the former Pennsylvania senator's record on social issues.

"I am supporting Rick Santorum for President because of his stance on issues that attack vital Christian values our country was founded upon: no abortion, upholding traditional marriage, defending religious freedom, no euthanasia," Rivers said in a statement.

The quarterback went on to pledge to help Santorum as he campaigns through the Deep South.

Alabama native, maybe.....but he made his mark as QB here in NC with the NC State Wolfpack.

His dad was head football coach at the high school JUST up the street in my last neighborhood here in Raleigh (was a beautiful, brand new school). He took them to a state championship within a year or two....then moved on. His replacement was an idiot who couldn’t win a game if the competing team didn’t even bother to show.

Philip Rivers is Catholic and has six kids. He has been seen attending early morning mass on game days.

Go Wolfpack! I am not surprised that Rivers is backing Santorum. Philip Rivers is one class individual. Look up his story and you will understand why he is making this endorsement.

I don't understand why any sane individual would care about about who an NFL QB endorses.

Rivers is obviously suffering from the same disease as Sweater Vest, its called Megalomania.

I understand Drew Brees is endorsing Doctor John, maybe I should start a thread.

Lobotomy? That is so insulting. How could you say such a thing?

As a staunch Catholic promoting Santorum, Phil Rivers is defending his faith, family and the unborn. He is defending the highest values of civilization. He is showing intelligence, wisdom and love for his fellow man.

"Social issues" Santorum ...

Because that's what a presidency is about... sigh.

How could you say such a thing?

The lack of a legitimate argument.

Does Rom2000 stand for Romney 2012?

We need all the votes for Santorum and Newt to cut Romney share to about 20% but no more because we have to deal with all liberal Eastern states such as NY, New Jersey, and so on later, and most have winner-take-all delegates.

Deny Romney Republican nomination as he is pro-gay, pro-abortion, pro federal healthcare mandate.

If the GOP race is not settled and the California GOP primary comes into play, Philip River’s endorsement could be very important in San Diego County. San Diego County is not at all like the Los Angeles or the San Francisco Gay Area. Santorum is closing the gap with Romney in the latest Public Policy Institute of California poll.

This genius is one concussion short of a lobotomy.

Phillip Rivers may not be supporting your chosen candidate, but he's a Christian and willing to speak up for conservative values. For that he should be applauded - especially on these pages. Not insulted.

WOW, I live in San Diego and I can not believe the courage that Mr Rivers shows in his proclamation! He will be crucified in the San Diego and US msm for this stance. I pray for his strength and courage

>> defending the highest values of civilization... showing intelligence, wisdom and love for his fellow man.

Good endorsement for Rick. But the political destruction of our opponents is not about moral vanity. It’s about the Liberty that will permit morality to thrive. We need to take the Presidency, not only showcase the propriety that exemplifies Santorum’s campaign.

I like Rick, but I’m obviously doubtful about his ability to win the Presidency and manage the Country.

Go Newt!!!
