Executive Order Authorizing Martial Law Called “Routine”
Semi-News/Semi-Satire ^ | 24 March 2012 | John Semmens

Posted on 03/25/2012 2:50:07 PM PDT by John Semmens

Last weekend’s issuance of an Executive Order giving the President the option of declaring an emergency and taking control over all food, energy, water, transportation and any other materials was described as “routine” by Presidential Press Secretary Jay Carney.

“The President has obligations to the American people,” Carney observed. “He would like the cooperation of Congress in his efforts to fulfill these obligations. But as we have seen, there are many in Congress who have labored to obstruct these efforts. The President needs to have latitude to act.”

“It would be best for members of Congress to consider this Executive Order as a kind of ‘heads up,’” Carney added. “There are reforms that the President has said on numerous occasions can’t wait. I assure you, he’s serious. Congress can participate as partners in shaping these reforms or they can be bypassed. It’s their choice.”

We were reassured that this was routine. Not so sure now.

Does this matter? When has anyone elected to either the Senate or House do anything to stop his imperial majesty from doing anything he wants, legal or illegal?
Oh there may be some caterwauling but for anyone to actually do anything, like maybe articles of impeachment, requires, oh, I don't know, takes backbone, huge cahones, and a desire to be dragged bloodied and naked thru the mainstream media, never to be heard of again. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN. Remember, we have politicians, not statesmen, in charge. Are you happy now? You should be. WE GOT WHAT WE VOTED FOR BECAUSE WE WERE NOT AS COMMITTED AS THE OTHER PARTY. Only we can undo the mistakes of the past BUT your congressman and senator are not part of this mess, right? Well, I'm here to tell you that if your district doesn't change their congressman and senator every decade, you are voting for politicians, not statesmen.
Where is Demosthenes when we need him?

A branch can issue itself powers? News to me. There is provision for emergencey in the constitution.

If the “latitude” isn’t in the constitution it doesn’t exist for the president.

,,,,, routine tyranny perhaps ,,, seems the prez’s planned occupy wallstreeter riots for late summer will bring on a state of martial law followed by his new executive order to commandeer the economy and suspend the Nov. 2012 election is materializing quite well as we sleep at the wheel . The pot is beginning to get hot and the frog ain't budging .

A deflation of martial law is a declaration of war against the people. The federal government would have to be considered illegal, and any act of a government official against an individual could rightly be resisted.

This is the most worrisome statement I’ve heard to date.
