60 Minutes Steers Christians Against Israel

Last Sunday, CBS’ 60 Minutes broadcast “Christians of the Holy Land,” by Bob Simon, largely blaming Israel for an exodus of Christians from the Holy Land. The showing coincides with a growing international campaign to portray Israel as anti-Christian, showcasing Palestinian Christians as evidence.

“Palestinian Christians, once a powerful minority, are becoming the invisible people, squeezed between a growing Muslim majority and burgeoning Israeli settlements,” the segment opened. “Israel has occupied the West Bank for 45 years.”

But the harsher indictment came from a Palestinian Lutheran pastor and critic of Israel. “If you see what's happening in the West Bank, you will find that the West Bank is becoming more and more like a piece of Swiss cheese where Israel gets the cheese that is the land, the water resources, the archaeological sites,” complained Mitri Raheb. “And the Palestinians are pushed in the holes behind the walls.”

Christians comprise between 1 and 2 percent of Palestinians. But because American Christians, especially evangelicals, are among Israel’s most strategically important friends, undermining Christian sympathy for Israel has become a major theme for anti-Israel activism.

60 Minutes largely cast Israel’s ambassador to the U.S., Michael Oren, as the villain, and Christians Palestinians as the victims. Oren disputed that Israel persecutes Christians and wondered why there is not more focus on harsh anti-Christian persecution elsewhere in the Middle East. Most grieving to Simon, Oren complained to CBS before the segment’s broadcast, which Simon huffed was unprecedented. … 60 Minutes was mostly uninterested in examining Islamic extremism, while faulting Israel for a Palestinian Christian exodus whose outcome is that: “The veil is replacing the cross.” …

...the segment opened. “Israel has occupied the West Bank for 45 years.”

Correction. Koranimals have occupied Western Israel for 45 years.
I keep forgetting why I never watch 20-20. decades ago, when it covered a few topics I knew very well, and got it all wrong, deliberately so, I stopped watching.

Who actually believes that Christians are so ignorant and gullible to succumb to "useful idiot" propaganda? I assure you that I have supported Israel all my life, and hope to continue to do so.

When Israel adopts the koranimal cultural flaw of attacking other religions, and using mass murder as the means, I might change my mind.

Until then, may Israel exist forever!

If any arab palestinian speaks well of Israel and Jews, what do you suppose his life expectancy is?

With that in mind, what are the chances of peace between Israel and the arabs?

Western Israel, or Eastern Israel? Other than my confusion on that, I agree with your post.

I drove past a Baptist Church yesterday that had about twenty large Israeli Flags on the lawn. Let 60-Minutes dream on.

What more can you expect from an elite, self-loathing Jew like Simon? When does he care about Christians? Ooops...my bad they were Palestinians.

I haven't watched 60 Minutes in decades. I see no point in wasting my precious time on this earth listening to lying propaganda. I don't watch PeeWee Herman. Why would I watch PeeWee 60 Minutes?

My wife watches it. Then, if we talk about the subjects covered, I have to patiently explain to her why what she just watched is a pile of steaming bull pucky.

This is true of the media in general.  The fact you mentioned is an extremely powerful tool to use as a weapon against the media.  Something I've learned over the years is that just about everybody has some subject that they hold near and dear to their heart that they know a bit more than your average folk. When I find what this is, I question them about media reporting concerning that topic. Almost invariably the response I get is similar to what you state above. My next question is, "Then why do you trust them on topics you aren't quite so knowledgeable about?" This has been the beginning of the light bulb turning on for some folks. You don't even really have to press that hard afterwards, just get them thinking on that.
