4 Reasons Why THC Should Not be a Factor in Trayvon Martin's Death (Unintentional Laff Riot)
PolicyMic ^ | May 20, 2012 | Ursula Brantley

Ever since Trayvon Martin was gunned down by George Zimmerman just moments from his front door, some people have been trying to make Trayvon look like a trouble making 17-year-old black kid who started a fight with a man who was only doing his job. That's crap!

Regardless of what they say, I know in my heart that wasn’t the person he was. I’m not saying he was an angel because no one is perfect, but he’s not what people are trying to make him out to be. I consider that totally disrespectful for anyone to slander anyone else’s name when they’re no longer breathing to defend themselves. I believe it’s a cowardly and disrespectful move. So what if he was suspended from school for having a baggie with marijuana residue in it and he has THC in his system at the time of death, you can’t judge someone for something you have done or still do. Here are four reasons why Trayvon’s marijuana usage should be completely irrelevant.

1. You can’t judge someone for something you have done or still do.

Everyday people of all ages, races, and social statuses fire up blunts, smoke joints, and hit bongs in hopes of easing their minds and obtaining that good feeling. Though everyone in the world doesn’t smoke weed, the average person does smoke or has at least tried smoking. Those who smoke can tell you that they more than likely started smoking as a young kid, teenager, or in their 20’s. If anyone has tried smoking, it was usually during the previously mentioned time that this experience took place. May I remind you that The People’s Son, as I would like to call him, was only 17-years-old? No one walking this earth is perfect, so people need to put their fingers down.

2. Marijuana Does Not make you aggressive.

THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, has been proven to make the user the complete opposite of aggressive. Anyone who uses common sense knows that weed is considered a downer and not an upper, which means that it’s going to slow you down and calm you before it makes you aggressive and prone to violence. After smoking any amount of weed, no one really wants to fight; they just want to eat and chill out. Alcohol is the strongest pharmacological link to violence and it’s the one that’s actually legal.

3. People use drugs and alcohol use to paint imperfect pictures of people.

People are always so quick to use toxicology reports against other people to make them seem like a less than adequate person. If you drank a beer or two, would you like it if people called you an alcoholic? I don’t think you would appreciate it very much. Ok, now imagine you were deceased. How would you feel, so to speak, and how do you think your family and friends will feel when they know you good and well you were nothing of the sort? Reports say that Trayvon’s THC and THC-COOH levels were so low that they can’t be connected to intoxication. Even if he was stoned out of his mind from smoking the best weed ever grown, he still wouldn’t have been in an aggressive state because weed is a downer and not an upper.

4. Drug use of any type is irrelevant because Trayvon was minding his own business while was he was on his way home.

It doesn’t matter if Trayvon was smoking weed or smoking crack, the point is that he was in his own zone minding his own business while he was on his way to his place of residence. He never took it upon himself to go mess with George Zimmerman, Zimmerman took it upon himself to mess with Trayvon. Trayvon could have been blowed out of his mind, but he wasn’t bothering anyone. If he was high at the time he was killed, he was just going home to finish watching the game and enjoy his high. He didn’t want any trouble, but trouble sure sniffed him out like a rabid bloodhound.

It’s been almost three months since Sybrina and Tracy saw or talked to their son. I know what it feels like to want to hold your child, but realize that all you can hold is a picture and your memories. Sometimes people just want to report the facts or get their point across, but don’t always stop to realize that this isn’t just a news story; this is an innocent life that’s gone and a family that’s hurting. People are quick to report someone else’s shortcomings, but work twice as hard to hide their own.

Marijuana cannot be classified as a depressant because it increases the heart rate blood pressure and cardio pulmonary system.
I went to saint johns university in the ninety’s and they actually had a class called “drug use in society” as a part of the criminal justice program.
It was in this class that the professor explained that because of these unique characteristics marijuana has its own classification as a drug.

Now is that education money well spent or what! Heck, at least I remember at half a lifetime later .

If they released Zimmerman’s toxicology report and it showed he had THC or booze in his system, this woman would be a stark-raving-mad lunatic saying he should be executed.

Likely true. But consider this.

If Martin had NO TRACE of any drugs in his system, then doesn't that just leave one conclusion?

He did it because he was a punk, a gangsta wannabe punk whose parents could no longer control him, and he thought he could get away with it. He was becoming a criminal in every way, and murder was just next.

I guarantee you that if a trace of THC had been discovered in GZ this would be non-stop "news" on the Propaganda Networks.

My expectations for this situation are that 1) GZ becomes a very rich guy from multiple defamation suits, 2) Angela "Nifong" is prosecuted for malicious and false prosecution, 3) Crump is disbarred.

...but that's just me...

It is excessively wordy - not great writing by any means - but still, there are subjects and verbs and all.

I agree with ichabod1, a teacher is a good bet.

Unfortunately your "heart" isn't admissible in a court of law.

According to GZ, Trayvon ran from him when he approached, and he lost sight of him. Trayvon then doubled back and ambushed Zimmerman as he was walking back to his truck. If Trayvon just wanted to go home, he'd have done it.

Once I was nearly run over by four pot-smokers in a car. They were trying to hit me.

Yeah. Usually it's not too hard to get out of the way of a car going 5 mph.

So what you’re saying is that the THC argument is a red herring? They want to keep this kid as spotless as possible, but the evidence is stacking up against it.

Exactly. Those Janjaweed militias in Africa are known to smoke MJ before doing some very unpeaceful things.

If Trayvon just wanted to go home, he'd have done it.

Yeah... I guess Trayvon had just about had it with this 'security' guy. Putting a cramp on his 'night-job'. His Mom had kicked him out, and his old neighborhood was 'resource poor'.

His dad's girlfriend's neighborhood had some better pickings ... and yet 'the man' was trying to get in the way.

So... he 'punked' the cracker. And got shot during a struggle for the gun he tried to take from the 'security' guy.

My name is Ursula Brantley and I'm a 26-year-old single mother from Shreveport, LA. Ever since I was young, I've loved writing and the older I became the more I realized that I'm actually pretty good at it. I believe that every young person should be educated about the world around them. The world is moving and changing so fast. We're the future of this one world so we must be on top of our game, but of course, with our own twist. We're such a diverse generation and we should use our diversity to our advantage and change the world.

Unless there's two Ursula Brantleys in Shreveport, it looks like she's already had one baby, and it didn't survive being left alone with her "boyfriend". The Fail is strong in this one.
