Deltona (Florida) High School student Michael Rudi suffered a potentially life-threatening asthma attack while attending classes. Though an inhaler prescribed by Rudis doctor was available, the school nurse withheld it from him because the school could not locate a signed permission form from his parents.
The schools Director of Student Health Services, Cheryl Selesky, defended the nurses action saying that its a matter of liability. If we allow him to medicate himself without having the proper papers filled out and he dies, the parents could sue us. If we follow our rules the blame for any ill consequences falls on the parents for their failure to complete the required paperwork in a timely manner. Its basically a no-brainer decision for us.
Selesky admitted that the schools back up policy of calling 911 was not implemented. Instead, the nurse locked Rudi in her office to prevent other students from possibly being traumatized by seeing one of their classmates suffocate to death. I know the students mother and others may be second-guessing what we did, but we have a responsibility to the collective well-being of all our students. No individuals situation, no matter how dire, can be allowed to override this responsibility.

Good one John. I read the original story on this last week sometime, and was really angry at the stupidity of the morons at that school as I assume you were too.
Your satire well enhanced the actual story, and the resulting emotion.
Aside: The results of ambulance chasing lawyers like John Edwards.
Since this is a true story -
There need to be a lawsuit, except it should not be against the school district. The school district will just cover it by jacking up the taxes. The defendants need to be the school nurse, the principal, the assistant principals, and the members of the school board, making them personally liable. The parents should then get R Lee Ermey in their faces - extra salty. Fire them, then shun them. Make them leave town, and afraid to show their faces anywhere near that town.
Simple Fix, Buy a big box of condoms and put all your kids meds in it (hidden under the condom packs) have them take it to school and keep it in their locker. Have the kids put Abortion literature in the locker also. The school will leave your kid alone.
I am so glad this is satire. Death by asthma is no joke.
