Was Trayvon Martin high on a concoction called “Lean” the night he was killed?
Wizbang ^ | May 27, 2012 | Rick Rice

Bob Owens is raising the possibility:

"I had never heard of “lean” before yesterday, but apparently it is a concoction made from certain prescription cough syrups and a beverage medium, often made more palatable with candy.

One of the recipes for “lean” calls for using Arizona Iced Tea Co. watermelon fruit juice cocktail as the beverage of choice, and Skittles candy… the items found on Trayvon Martin’s body the night he was shot by George Zimmerman.

The Conservative Treehouse has a lengthy post about the recreational drug, it’s effects and side effects, and alleged screen captures of Trayvon Martin’s social media sites discussing his fondness for the concoction."

If the story is correct it seems Trayvon’s medical records and the medical examiner’s review of his body will be revisited, to see if he used the drug frequently and in a concentrated enough form to explain his apparent confusion at the convenience store that night, the odd behavior that spurred George Zimmerman to call Sanford police, and the aggression he displayed when he fought with Zimmerman.

I read this to my wife and youngest son and their reaction was that this is a stretch. And perhap it is. Especially if you’d never heard of ‘Lean’ and if you don’t read the details of the post put up at The Conservative Treehouse.

If those details are true however, and frankly, they’re pretty convincing, then there’s yet more evidence that Zimmerman needs to be exonerated.

Read the details yourself and tell us in the comments if you think it’s a stretch.

Frankly, after doing so, I can only conclude it’s a stretch to think it a stretch.

It would be good if more people read that article before drawing conclusions and commenting. The autopsy showed liver damage which is consistent with use of lean and similar drugs. Trayvon wasn’t diabetic and apparently didn’t have any medical condition that might have caused that liver damage.

The media portrayed Trayvon as a poor kid going out to get himself some iced tea and skittles for his little brother. In fact, he went out to buy the watermelon drink and skittles - both ingredients of lean. He might have been planning on mixing up another batch of the stuff.

If so, he’d be mixing it with marijuana since the autopsy also showed evidence of its use within a few hours of his encounter as well as longer term use.

“Drank” is what L’il Wayne was hooked on. And I was told he is STILL hooked on it.

A lot of rappers and would-be rappers are drinking it.

It took him FORTY minutes to walk HALF OF ONE MILE —verrrry slow.

High on Drank?

People ought to view the 7-11 vid cuz the 3 guys in there whom he apparently knew were scum-bags of the very first order.

Who walks around inside an urban convenience store at night with the hoodie on one’s head with the drawcords pulled to 90% shut, peering through an hood opening the size of a glass coaster...?

A freaking criminal.

Well, he left the store with the can in the bag. At the scene, the can was in his front hoodie pocket. He took it out of the bag to have his hands free to beat up GZ.

Then there are the possible missing blunts...

Long ago in Vietnam many of my troops were dipping tootsie pop suckers into bottles of codine cough syrup. Called a cold pack from sick call. This “Lean” sounds like a variant of that fuzzy brain game.

Sad...

If Snow White sucker punched a neighborhood watch captain, started beating his head into the curb, and fought him for his gun (and lost the battle), then she would be dead and the watch captain had EVERY RIGHT to defend himself.

Trayvon or Snow White, the laws should be the same for all. That is what the 'left' keeps saying they want, right?

I'm beginning to see the pattern. All of these assaults, and I subscribe to the Trayvon attacked George theory, all these assaults are caused by one of a variety of substances. Maybe it's some powerful LSD, or some cough medicine mixed with skittles.

The people are not to blame, but a drug caused it and they're really nice and innocent. I see it developing.

All the rest of it’s of passing interest to the public, but the jury will never hear it.
Well, I guess anything can happen in this case, since so much of this case is "above the law"... but in a more normal case wouldn't the act of smoking crack 15 minutes before the incident (for example) have bearing on the question of whether or not an alleged attacker was actually aggressive or not?

Zimmerman alleges that Martin attacked him without provocation. How is Martin's mental condition (on drugs, not on drugs) not relevant to that allegation?

Again, I realize this case is "above the law" and normal considerations don't apply... but in any other case, where the alleged attacker hasn't been publicly elevated to Sainthood, wouldn't drug use, and drugged-state-of-mind, be relevant?

“The can of tea he bought at the store appears to have been unopened”

Watermelon FRUIT JUICE COCKTAIL!!!! NOT TEA!!!!!

In the crime scene photo of the can of Watermelon FRUIT JUICE COCKTAIL, on top of Trayvon’s dead body, covered by a yellow plastic blanket, you can not tell if the can had been opened. The top of the can is not visible.

“It’s a scrip cough medicine. It contains codeine.”

No it isn't! Over the counter Robitussin or almost anything that says “tussin”.

You and others here should have read the entire part 1 & 2 of the article. Then you wouldn't be making all these false assumptions.

Very dangerous drug mixture, with violent outbursts. Has caused death in some cases. Yes, OVER THE COUNTER, readily available to every punk gangsta who wants it. Yes, there is a recipe made with skittles and Watermelon Fruit Juice Cocktail. Yes, should be able to see evidence of use in the brain and liver and blood. Yes, Trayvon was a user and most likely a seller of this stuff.

It was a long 2 part article I can't remember it all, look it up.
