Environment Texas attempts to stop SpaceX spaceport

As Texas appears to be getting more serious about enticing SpaceX to build a spaceport near Brownsville an environmental group has stepped forward to oppose the project.

At issue is the threat of “noise, heat, vibration, fencing and hazardous material spills” from the proposed spaceport that could lower the value of nearby Boca Chica Park and the Lower Rio Grande Valley Natural Wildlife Refuge.

Here’s the full text of a news release issued today by Environment Texas:

Environment Texas launched a petition drive today to stop the proposed construction of a spaceport on private land almost completely surrounded by a south Texas park and wildlife refuge. California company SpaceX – which made news last week when their commercial spacecraft successfully attached to the International Space Station – has applied to the Federal Aviation Administration for a license to launch million pound rockets from an area home to endangered sea turtles, ocelots and falcons.

“I love the space program as much, if not more, than anyone,” said Environment Texas Director Luke Metzger. “But launching big, loud, smelly rockets from the middle of a wildlife refuge will scare the heck out of every creature within miles and sprays noxious chemicals all over the place. It’s a terrible idea and SpaceX needs to find another place for their spaceport.”

How in hell does one lower the value of a State Park. Was someone planning to sell it and put up town homes.

Good luck with that in Texas, eco-hobbits. They don’t take well to your ilk there...

That was my first thought when I read this excerpt. How do their brains work? How does a brain function on absolutely zero logic?

Push the b-stards aside, and full speed ahead. It’s past time to tell the enviro-weenies to screw off.

They can all go to Hell.

If the spaceport goes through I’d love to retire as close as possible to it!

Boca Chica. Ain’t nothing there but salt grass, sand and the Brownsville ship channel to the north!

Maybe the could shoot Wetbacks to the Space Station.
Illegals are everywhere else!

Put these idiots on the spot when they make asinine claims. Make them tell you where they ‘feel’ is an acceptable place for anything.

Remember that the blasted wasteland known as the Mohave Desert is critical habitat for turtles, K-rats and insects. So Where?

Under it is off limits too since Reid killed the nuke dump in NV and the greens killed one outside Needles CA a couple decades back. So where?

Answer? NO-where. They are a disease that needs to be cured. Immediately. Follow Nancy Reagan’s advice. Just say no...to their face, in court and in the media.

“But launching big, loud, smelly rockets from the middle of a wildlife refuge will scare the heck out of every creature within miles “

sounds reasnalbe on the surface. But the proof is in the pudding.

Someone aught to take them on a ride around the National Wildlife Refuge Area roads sharing the area with the KSC (Kennedy Space Center) They abound with wildlife - many kinds of birds, lotsa gators, up close and personal as you drive the back, narrow dirt roads. etc.

http://www.fws.gov/refuges/profiles/index.cfm?id=41570

excerpt:
“Over 500 species of wildlife inhabit the Refuge with 16 currently listed as federally threatened or endangered. Several wading bird rookeries, approximately 10 active bald eagle nests, numerous osprey nests, up to 400 manatees and an estimated 2,500 Florida scrub jays can be found on the Refuge.”

They probably know this though. It’s not about truth, it’s about propaganda...and knowing m ost people will swallow it.

Smelly?

Sprays noxious chemicals "all over the place."

OK.

Director Luke Metzger

Studied political science and theater at the University of Southern California.

Used to hang out with an environmental outfit called U.S.PIRG (Public Interest Research Groups) and worked with the "CALPRIG" crew.

State PIRGs are funded through two sources: members and foundations.

Enviroment Texas and Environment Texas work jointly with State and U.S. PIRG's.

He comprises exactly 25% of his "Environment Texas" crew and Environment Texas is the State affiliate of "Environment America."

Neither U.S.PIRG or Environment America and it's State Affiliates appear to receive government funding. Individual donations, individual per-student fees and a non-profit org, Fund for Public Interest Research and generally referred to as the FFPIR.

“Studied political science and theater at the University of Southern California. “

Whether or not he actually graduated, both of these fields of study make him eminently qualified in environmental matters. Or, perhaps a stock boy at Target if Obama loses.
