Yesterday, the first day of the month, came with no good news for the Obama campaign a jobs report showing a slow-down in an economy the President was arguing had been growing, in an election year where the economy was first and foremost in the minds of voters. On last nights Anderson Cooper 360º, host Anderson Cooper noted that the jobs numbers were, in fact, bad, but spent a much greater time correcting claims by the Romney camp that the President had made certain promises an editorial choice that seemed to diminish the days biggest headline.
Cooper played the clip of the President explaining that our economy is facing some serious headwinds, but then turned to the Romney camps reaction Mitt Romney himself calling the report very bad news for the American people. Cooper noted that polls show the race to be a tight one, with the economy being the top issue, and ceded that it is certainly true that it is the Presidents job to get America back to work. But then he turned to a particular claim by the Romney camp that President Obama had promised below 8% unemployment after the stimulus. This, Cooper noted, is a promise several media outlets have debunked, including Politifact and the The Washington Post.
Cooper is correct to point out that the claim is not exactly a full representation of the truth, and fact-checking both sides is clearly necessary, especially the closer we get to November when both campaigns will be in overdrive. But focusing his Keeping Them Honest segment on Romneys claims instead of the Presidents when one is clearly in charge of the economy and the other is not seems to bury the lede in a serious way. It should be clear that a bad monthly jobs report should put President Obama on the defensive not his challenger. Incumbency comes with a great many advantages, and with those come responsibility for reports like these. Romneys claim could be incorrect and certainly merits attention, but highlighting it as a top story of the day with the days jobs report as a semi-relevant backdrop undermines the impact President Obamas policies are having on the economy, encouraging in some subconscious way a closer scrutiny of Romneys campaign over President Obamas potential errors.

My MIL loves this smug jackass. That and “The View”. GGGgggrrrr.
Poofters of a feather f**ck together.
As a News Anchor, he probably is rich enough to have a tough time understanding what a lot of people are going through, and tries to project it at other people.
I pity you.
As for the claim that unemployment would not be higher than 8%, I distinctly remembering Biden saying it.
That is exactly the point - always look for connections and what there is to gain. Cooper the poooper-packer fawns over Obama because he supports Homo-”Marriage”. From this point forward, don’t expect ANYTHING even REMOTELY negative about Obama from his Sodomite lips.
Does she like gladiator movies? Has she ever been in a Turkish prison?
You owe me a new screen, lol!
Obama’s team getting a head start by blaming Romney BEFORE he holds office.
IF Obama leaves the WH in January we can expect to hear him trashing GOP and Romney 24/7 for the next 4 years. Dim Presidents (see Clinton & Carter) become expert witnesses for the failing of GOP administrations. GOP Presidents (see Bush’s & Reagan) tend to avoid the partisanship after stepping down.
I think its because Republicans tend to lead productive happy lives after they serve
"As for the claim that unemployment would not be higher than 8%, I distinctly remembering Biden saying it."
Biden's advisors in fact came up with that claim:
"Jared Bernstein, the former chief economist and economic advisor to Vice President Joe Biden, wrote a report along with Christina Romer, the chairwoman of President Barack Obamas Council of Economic Advisors, in January 2009 predicting the less-than-8-percent unemployment rate...
The report was entitled The Job Impact of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan.
...On page four of the 2009 Romer/Bernstein report a chart states that the unemployment rate nationwide with the $821-billion economic stimulus package would peak at 8 percent."
The poor little rich girl’s poor little gay boy.
Jobs will return when America Fires Obama in November.
Someone remind me again why CNN has historically low ratings?
I think she did like “Will & Grace” (that was before I met DH), but I couldn’t tell you about the others!
Ummmm..... Because they are delusional socialist shills for anything against free markets because their employer has already reaped the benefits of said markets?
Rush doesn’t call him ‘Anderson Cooper 180’ for no good reason.
