Not the juice, if you’re drinking Ocean Spray. That’s full of corn syrup. You’re better off with dried cranberries or the powder in capsules.

“Ocean Spray Announces Campaign To Educate Public On Cranberry Health Benefits”
Created: June 8, 2012

SNIPPET: “Ocean Spray has announced the launch of “The Exceptional Cranberry” campaign to educate regulators, consumers and health influencers about the whole body health benefits of the cranberry, and to urge them to help make cranberry the exception in sugar policy recommendations targeted at the consumption of soda and other high sugar snack foods with little to no nutritive value.”

SNIPPET: “Cranberry health facts are as follows:

Cranberries have well documented properties in maintaining urinary tract health.”

SNIPPET: “Cranberries are rich in antioxidants and have more naturally occurring antioxidants per gram than other common fruit.

Cranberries contain proanthocyanadins (PACs) that may help keep certain bacteria from adhering to linings inside the body.

Certain compounds in cranberries may also have a positive effect on cardiovascular health and digestive health.

A growing number of new studies point to the cranberry’s exceptional ability to bolster immunity.”

Commercial cranberry juice, loaded with high fructose corn syrup, is not. It is bad for you.

Do you have any evidence to support that? No fair using talking points from Michelle.

Cranberries pair perfectly with turkeys just like
apple sauce with pork. These fruits break up the uric acid
in those meats, respectively which in turn, stave off gout.
Cherries/juice work well in treating gout also.

I always thought Cranberry’s were good for you.

The National Kidney and Urologic Diseases Information Clearinghouse officially endorses drinking cranberry juice.

I like cranberries, but cranberry juice is loaded with sugar/carbs. A 12oz Coke has fewer calories (140) than 12oz of cranberry juice (195). Check out the label for Ocean Spray Cranberry juice. I don't support federal regulations, but cranberry juice is a nice sweet treat, goes well with vodka, but is not particularly healthy.

Commercial cranberry juice, loaded with high fructose corn syrup, is not. It is bad for you.

But ... cranberries are practically impossible to eat without some kind of sweetening.

What would you suggest as a "healthy" sweetener? As I understand it, sugar is sugar.

Sure, ever few years some new food substance has to be declared evil. In recent years the two most popular villains in the media have been declared to be high fructose corn syrup and [gasp] gluten.

But fructose was actually promoted as the "healthy" sugar, just a couple of decades ago. The truth is, it's no better and no worse than other sugars. They're all bad for your teeth, that's for sure! And so is acid. After enjoying our delicious cranberry cocktails, we should probably go straight to rinsing out our mouths -- not just to rinse away the sugar, but the acid from the cranberries as well.

To the OP:
I detest Michelle Obama as much as anybody, but I don't see any link drawn in this article between her, and an attack on cranberries!

I think the blogger is indulging in a bit of a stretch.

Sugar is widely viewed as a target, and sweetened beverages like cranberry juice cocktail could be deemed unhealthy.

There are other ways to consume cranberries than the Ocean Spray Regular cranberry juice. They have a Light version of the juice cocktail (other companies make juices with WAY less sugar), there are dried cranberries (Craisins, made in Wisconsin), fresh cranberries in all sorts of foods, such as oatmeal.

There is a significant difference between cranberry juice and cranberry juice cocktail (Ocean Spray’s drink). Even the cocktail is loaded with Vitamin C, though.

Cranberry juice and even the cocktail have helped with many infections. Always kept it in stock.
