What do I hear tonight? Sounded like a couple of 24 pounders over at the base and a volley of 6 pounders, followed by the big guns again.
Of course, it's a celebration today, and no-one is actually shooting.
I can hear it. Catz are hiding.
What I didn't hear tonight was my grandsons. Sorry. I just can't frigging hear them. Too high pitched at their age.
Too many years around jets and guns and personal arms.
I read their lips the best I could and my eldest grandson there tried hard to communicate with me.
I don't hear so good anymore.
I carry a coin in my right pocket. 1 oz .99 silver, US Mint. Important if you want to calibrate scales in a kitchen. I pulled it out to show to the grandson and he said (I read) Walking Liberty.
Tonight, I heard freedom.

I have the same hearing problem.Too much automatic weapons fire back in the day.
I too carry a Liberty Dollar. A 2000 vintage walking Liberty. She’s a beautiful Lady.
I don’t use her to calibrate scales, but it’s nice to walk around with some real money in the pocket. Not that I’d spend her.
Teach those (grand)children well JRandom...
Must be a common affliction. I too can’t hear very well anymore. Higher pitches are worse. My day was rather boring. All the celebrations here were cancelled due to the fires. The only fireworks I’ll see are on youtube.
All I do now is spoil 'em. They can't annoy me, I can't hear 'em.

The shiny coin that her brothers were interested in did get the 1 year old grand-daughter to approach without screaming. (Gotta trim my beard, I scare small children).
Her, I can hear. Go figure.

Funny thing: Our local editorial and conservative cartoonist - Gary Varval - had a toon in the paper today of people watching fireworks on an iPad.
You’re not alone, but we don’t have the fires. Hope all your family is safe.
Most fireworks here in Indy today are canceled as well. Threat of fire. No real rain for over a month, and resivoirs are way low. Great deals from the fireworks sellers though. Saw a sign for 60% off, if you want to buy and set off later as there’s a ban in place this year.
Beards scare kids, if I recall back when I had one. But once they get used to it, they liked to grab hold of it quite often. And they’re weren’t always gentle about it either.
That may be fairly appropriate in a few minutes. I'm going on the roof and watching the rest of the show.

Going to bed with your poetry on my mind. Salutes, FRiend.
That ain't poetry. I think in agricultural circles they call it something else.
It's not even good free-verse.
Just my thoughts.

My dad went deaf from decades in hangars and on flight decks.
Happy 4th! Bill, Sabine and I are just wrapping up our annual viewing of “1776.”
Fireworks were outstanding here, along with the mosquito bites. My neighbors across the pond must be in 1% because they put on a two hour show with the other 1 per center on the other side.
I’m grateful and thankful for their huge display! My neighbors and I were cheering and clapping. God bless the USA in the days ahead.
Docs said I probably lost more of my hearing to computer fans than jets and booming guns and personal firearms. I didn't bring up rock concerts.
Meh. We also got cigarettes in our rats back then.
I'll live with it. It was touching to see my grandson work so hard to communicate. He's tri-lingual, so he isn't always easy to lip-read.
He knew Walking Liberty when he saw it though.

My husband and the husband of a friend have the same circumstance of the same origin. Our 82yo combat vet neighbor’s hearing is worse. We hope that when we go over there to check on him he won’t blow our heads off accidentally lol!. It has been a good Fourth for us. We’ve distributed educational materials to receptive persons and distributed patriotic-themed toys to kids. Our neighbor is OK. All is well.
Thank you for taking care of the country and sleep well!
age does have some perks, not having to listen to drivvel...but keep reading, a lot of us like having you around.
Hope you have a good nights sleep tonight...:O) GG
PS a few years back at Christmas (I always have it at my house for about 25 people) One of my grandsons made the mistake of saying " grandma you got some cobwebs in the corner of the living room..." I handed him the mop and said.....he who finds it cleans it up... My grandkids now think my house is spotless....but they all still love me as much as I love them (have 13) One works in TV in California, one in Montana in the Air Force, One graduated from U of M and another one won a full scolorship to college in N>Y. The youngest is in the 9th grade...another got a scholorship to University of .....I forgot, but he doing well...
Brain is going quicker than my hearing.....:O)
My Liberty dollars came from my late father-in-law, and they’re all from the early 20th century.
It’s a beautiful coin with a lot of weight, both from the silver and from the symbolism.
