Storm Warning: The Gloomy Forecast for EMPs
The Foundry (Heritage Foundation) ^ | July 6, 2012 | Jessica Zuckerman

Almost a week after the D.C. area was pummeled with raging storms, many individuals are still suffering in the July heat without lights, phone lines, and, perhaps most importantly, air conditioning.

In the immediate aftermath of this event, tens of thousands of Washingtonians, Marylanders, and Virginians were left without power. Storms across the country had similar effects, and Americans from Richmond to Detroit are still facing the summer heat without many basic comforts.

As awful as this is, things could be even worse. Imagine for a moment that that the power never came back on.

Sorry you feel the need to curse me, a fellow Christian, if you are in fact a Christian. But you're too late, God's already blessed me - I'm a victor not a victim.

BTW, what I do or don't do has nothing to do with the discussion at hand. Your descent into sour personal attacks just makes you look like an immature elementary schooler.

BTW, there's nothing wrong with being a street preacher like Arthur Blessitt who has been welcomed by kings around the world, if that's God's calling. Not that it has any relevance to this discussion or is any of your business, I'm a law student in my last year. Who knows, maybe someday I'll be defending you so you won't have to be a "victim."

I just spent about 12 hours over the weekend backing up my hard drive onto DVD’s - didn’t want to invest in a blu-ray burner. It was a royal pain in the neck, but ya never know.

Oh I dunno, just because you test some software and it fails doesn’t mean it will fail when the clock really ticks over, does it?

As someone who worked four long years prior to Y2K finding and repairing ancient systems with 2-digit year variables which would in many instances cause the customers' programs to blow up, I find your comment highly offensive.

The technology for off grid electrical is so advanced now that you can put together an affordable combo to power up a retreat and be fairly comfortable.

After researching for over 2 years we have arrived at a plan for a combo of wood, propane and a small solar system that would basically give us the same lifestyle we live now except for A/C. Will have to ditch the clothes dryer and go back to the clothesline but no big deal. When I was a kid nobody had AC and everyone used a clothesline. Life was good. A little hot in July and Aug but you just lived through it.

Almost any grounded, closed metal box could be a Faraday cage, from filing cabinets to refrigerators/freezers to a safe.

If I had a generator and other emergency electronics to keep EMP safe, I'd build or buy a Faraday cage to store them in.

Underground storage is also effective.

An EMP strike against us would hurt and would quickly separate and potentially cull the heard of the weak and the unprepared initially, but we are resource rich and very resourceful.

Which reminds me, I need to go buy that Colt AR and get it off of my "wish list". I wonder if Walmart has any left.
