Romney Steps on a Duck in NAACP Speech (Romney Puts Sexual Orientation on Par with Race, Creed)
Conservative Hq ^ | 12 Jul 12 | CHQ Staff

It seems every time presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney gets conservatives looking his way, he does something to turn them off and remind them that one of the greatest concerns they had about him during the primary season was his soft record on the conservative social agenda.

...snip

Romney’s speech to the NAACP was an otherwise unremarkable repetition of his standard campaign pitch until he got to this line, ... “…I hope to represent all Americans, of every race, creed and sexual orientation. From the poorest to the richest and everyone in between."

Of course, the President represents “all Americans,” but by including sexual orientation along with race and creed, Governor Romney undid a lot of the goodwill ...

Governor Romney and his inexperienced establishment Republican staff apparently failed to notice that by putting sexual orientation on the same plane as race and religion, Romney just undercut the rational and philosophical basis for opposition to same sex marriage. It also played right into the hands of supporters of the radical homosexual agenda.

Since Governor Romney and his speechwriters apparently haven’t figured this out, we will clarify it for them: social conservatives do not believe sexual orientation creates the same kind of constitutional rights that forbid discrimination based on race or religion.

That’s why we support the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), for example, and why social conservatives lead support for marriage amendments ...

By pandering to those who want to give sexual orientation the same status under the Constitution as race and religion enjoy, Mitt Romney put many social conservatives back on the sidelines of the presidential campaign, wondering whether what he said at Liberty University is what he really believes -- or if he was just pandering to us, too.

what a waste you Romney haters are!

And what a waste you Obama lovers are! You're out here pimping for liberalism and a liberal candidate because you know it turns conservatives off.

Your not so hidden strategy is simply to get Obama re-elected by putting up a big government, radical, anti-life, pro-gay agenda Liberal to run against him.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree!

You Obama lovers are ruining our country, but you don't care.

The ONLY outcome from NOT supporting Romney, is to effectively provide support for Obama.

Larry, that is mathematically and materially FALSE. Obama is way too weak to assume the kind of edge ABO strategy assigns to him.

Pay attention: Evidence is strong that Obama is WEAK among his own base -- many will desert him in 2012. You "reason" (actually, emote) as if Obama's vote count was immutable.

Then again, you also think that any rejection of Romney is actually based in anti-Mormon bigotry, which makes you awfully darned dim.

Romney, a few weeks back, voiced his support for gay couples. He voiced his support for those gay couples being permitted at state level to adopt children.

What do you call a “gay couple” that adopts children to have a “family”?

there is no subject on which you are more conservative than I.

The difference is that I’m participating in the real world, with real consequences.

“mathematically and materially FALSE”

Please provide a scenario, mathematically and materially supported, where someone other than Romney or Obama wins the election....

Of course I’m more conservative than you.

You support a pro-abortion, pro-gay agenda, pro-government health care, pro-corporate statism, big government, fee increasing, radical liberal.

I don’t.

And your secret plan is to get Obama re-elected by turning conservatives off.

You Obama lovers are all the same with your little games.

Either you are delusional or you are a liar. Maybe you are a delusional liar.

Name one thing that your buddy Romney has done in his entire lifetime that has advanced any conservative cause. And don't tell me what he has said that he will do. Tell me what he has done.

Xzins is probably the most consistently conservative poster on Free Republic. I have been here for more than ten years and I don't recall seeing much of you on these threads until today. Here you are pimping for Romney and insulting the owner of this site and many of his fellow travelers and accusing guys like xzins and jim rob of being Obama supporters because we refuse to sacrifice our conservative values on the altar of the GOP-E establishment. If you were anywhere near as conservative as xzins you would be joining in the rebellion rather than taking up arms against it.

Been here since 98, in spite of what current profile says.

Did you miss JimRob’s May 4th post, where he encouraged us to do what is necessary to get behind Romney and get rid of Obama?

But you liberals want Romney

Ha! I don't think I'd have been around 10 years if I was a liberal.

I'm a T.E.A. Party Conservative that is going to vote to defeat BHO. ...not just piss my vote away.

No way in hell do I want to live through another 4 years of an anti-capitalist anti-oil marxist in the White House.

I make my living in the oil-patch!

We're all extremely fustrated over who the RNC shoved down our throat and what to do about it.

We really are on the same team.

There is no point in time at which Jim Robinson said he would support Mitt Romney. Not ever.

JR has consistently called Romney a lying, cheating, radical liberal bastard, and that he would never vote for him ever.

Have you missed those?

Simple math:

You do not vote.
You just failed to nullify an Obama voter.

Example:

Obama receives 101 votes.
Romney receives 100 votes.
You did not vote.

You just helped elect the radical socialist from Chicago.

Positively unload both barrels on every non-conservative issue Romney sides with. I did that throughout the primaries.

However now we have ONLY 2 candidates left. Romney and Obama. One is a radical socialist community organizer from Chicago. I have already seen him in action for 3 years and 7 months. One candidate is talking getting rid of Obamacare, keep Bush taxcuts, and keep military strong. Other wants to raise taxes, shrink defense budget and appoint more Kagan’s to the court and is metaphysical certainty to go hard left. Other is less conservative than I like but is no where hard left.

I know where my vote will go.
