Times contributor Jeremy Peters has revealed that, in exchange for access to White House officials, reporters must promise the Administration full authority to exclude, redact or edit any and all statements made by those officials. This provides Obama with “veto power” over information printed by a purportedly free and vigilant, American media.

Whew!! Thank God the Constitution guarantees us Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the press!!

Emperor Obama may not, but the Constitution doe . . . . . . . er, used to. :-(

I went back to the original NY Times article this is about & apparently the Romney campaign does the same thing.

A reporter who lets his subject edit his article is no longer a reporter, whether on the left or right. Whoever hired them ought to fire them!

So, the MSM will find the practice acceptable when the GOP takes over? Maybe it should be continued whether they like it or not.

No surprise here. That’s what dictators do. Just look at Germany, Russia, China, etc, etc, etc, etc.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/media/2012/07/the-vps-remarks-will-not-be-tweeted-129919.html#.UA7I64994UA.twitter

The VP’s remarks will not be tweeted

Vice President Joe Biden will take questions from reporters on a White House press call today, and as has been the case in the past, the on-the-record conversation will be embargoed until the end of the call.

The curious caveat — who would write an article during the middle of the call? — is a product of the post-Twitter presidential campaign, barring reporters from the beloved habit of tweeting remarks in real-time.

But it begs the question: If it’s going to be in an article 20 minutes later, why can’t it be on Twitter right now?

From White House deputy press secretary Josh Earnest, via email: “The embargo will allow journalists to hear the entirety of the Vice President’s remarks and get the benefit of having their questions answered — before trying to condense a 30-minute conference call about a 20-page NEC report into a 140 characters.”

Isn’t this exactly the deal CNN made with Saddam Hussein? The Founders are rolling over in their graves, as we give up one right after another to The First Dictator.
