You never know what will be the next big news story. Who wouldve guessed that the fast food chain Chick-fil-A would dominate the political airwaves just a few months before November? It certainly caught me by surprise, at least. Today, I want to look into the Chick-fil-A controversy, the conservative backlash, and to conclude with an honest plea to my fellow conservatives to move on, already.
Whats the controversy? Early last month, an interview conducted by the Biblical Recorder with Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy surfaced in which Cathy reiterated the companys support for traditional marriage between a man and a woman. Anyone knowledgeable about the famous chains Christian views shouldnt have been too surprised by the interview, but it still created a small backlash amongst liberals and LGBT activists who called for a boycott of the companys restaurants. The story didnt receive a great deal of attention from conservatives, and normally this would be when the attention and controversy began to fade.
Then, Boston Mayor Thomas Menino waded into the controversy and publicly proclaimed that Chick-fil-A wasnt welcome in his city. This got conservatives interested, and soon Twitter and conservative blogs were afire with declarations of support for Chick-fil-A and denunciations of Mayor Menino as a fascist. This online firestorm culminated in former Governor Mike Huckabees Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day, which the restaurant chain just announced produced record-breaking sales (and more than a little bit of gloating amongst conservatives).

“Were just engaging in the latest distraction because its entertaining and an easy win.”
This was not an easy win. We worked for it. We earned every bit of it.
Why?
You can post the entire article here without worrying about excerpting if it's your blog.

In the case of the Chick-fil-A controversy, I believe that conservatives are contributing to the problem. While we delight in mocking Mayor Menino and celebrating the success of Chick-fil-A appreciation day, nobodys talking about the economy. Nobody is talking about job growth, dismantling the regulatory state, reducing the debt, or repealing ObamaCare.
That’ll either be settled on Nov 6th, or it won’t. Meanwhile, there are “other things” which require immediate attention. CFA is but one of them.
Sometimes it's just good to take a break and spend a few days smashing Lefties over the head with a sledgehammer.
This has NOTHING to do with gay marriage and everything to do with the radical left forcing us to conform to their dreams of totalitarian rule.
F them!
This was a show of force and we need to do more of it.
Thanks. We can walk and chew gum. We're fine.
Are you embarrassed by all these snake-handling holy rollers buying chicken?
The obamists had their say; now we're having ours.
Real people talking to each other, and getting excited about things like Cruz, Palin, whatever -- that IS the Tea Party. That's what creates life for the Tea Party.
This story is about more than Chick-Fil-A or gay marriage.
Self-righteous Democrats would rather play to the gay bleachers than allow a growing company to invest and create jobs in their community — all because they disagree not with the practices of the company (which seems happy to serve gays), but the personal religious opinions of the company’s president. Most of the public can distinguish between bigotry and Thought Police. I suspect the original “outrage” was all ginned up Journolist-style, to create a wedge issue, much as the fake “Sandra Fluke/War on Women.” It matters that this is another epic, self-inflicted failure; why let them have a pass?. Those huge lines at Chick-Fil-A are a proxy for what voters want to do on November 6.
I don’t like to post the full blogs on FR for several reasons. One, I haven’t been able to figure out how to replicate the formatting/hyperlinks. Two, they’re usually pretty long, and I think it’s better just to show the first few paragraphs. That lets anyone who’s interested read enough to decide whether or not it’s worth continuing on with. Three, since there aren’t any ads or anything like that on the blog, I’m not gaining anything out of the added traffic. I just want people interested enough to read the full article to read it in the original formatting.
As for the (obviously angry) feedback I’m getting here, I totally understand. Yesterday was a big, exciting day and worth celebrating for many conservatives. I’m just saying that there’s not much time until the elections, and that we need to focus on getting out the vote if we want to keep the House and take the Senate.
Chick-fil-A is obviously doing better than ever, we’ve won the argument, and we shouldn’t dwell on it while there are other battles still left to fight. That’s all. I’m not sure why that argument merits so many personal attacks on my character. I understand if you disagree, but let’s at least be civil about it.
Enough said to remind me why I don't go looking to 21 yr olds, even ones from Hillsdale, for advice on my conservative or political beliefs!
It's NOT an article, it's a blog post and I don't know
if it's wrong or not because the scummy pimp-assed puke
only posted an excerpt in hopes of getting some blog hits.
Maybe this "precision shootist" has something to say, maybe not.
I DAMNED sure am not going to click his gay-assed traffic-stealing Obama-loving AIDS-infected blog.
I'm just a cook. I can do that.
Which are you admitting? That you are clueless? Or lazy? Or perhaps trying to drive traffic away from FR?
BTW, I'm being civil when I tell someone that offers unsolicited and bad advice to kiss my @$$. You don't want to see un-civil.

And I should just let this golden opportunity to tell the Lib media, academia, Hollywierd to STFU, not likely in this lifetime.<\b>
You posted this drivel of an excerpted blog, and did not respond.
I thought then you were zot-worthy.
Now you reply with a “lets move on” style of answer. And I’m quite sure of my first instincts.
IBTZ.
Sark,
1. You’re going to find that MANY FReepers are not very tolerant of “blog pimpers” cluttering up freerepublic. Looking at your posting history that’s primarily what you’ve been doing here. And I am pretty much in that “not likin’ blog pimps” camp myself.
2. And you’re not going to get very far as a political strategist if your current “time to move on, folks” little essay is an example of your judgement. You’re demonstrating lack of understanding as well as your lack of judgement.
House
I understand, given your long tenure.

I havent been able to figure out how to replicate the formatting/hyperlinks
Of course your personal failing should grant you blog hits.
How else would it be just? How else would it be fair?
I think its better just to show the first few paragraphs
Praise God for your judgement. Especially since it provides you with blog hits.
Im not gaining anything out of the added traffic
Yes. You donate those blog hits to charity.
Im not sure why that argument merits so many personal attacks on my character
Because you are redirecting traffic to your blog.
I understand if you disagree, but lets at least be civil about it.
Stop stealing Free Republic's traffic and we shall see.
Stuff your opinion up your butt.
