Several Inland immigration activists took part in a demonstration at the state Capitol in Sacramento Tuesday urging Gov. Jerry Brown to sign the Trust Act into law. (here are some photos from KUVS-TV in Sacramento; the story is in Spanish).

The bill, which cleared its final legislative hurdle last week with Senate passage, would prevent police from handing over detainees arrested for non-violent crimes to federal immigration officials for possible deportation.

Immigration holds could still be put on people charged or convicted of serious or violent felonies.

Riverside and San Bernardino counties are among more than 3,000 jurisdictions nationwide that currently forward the fingerprints of all jail inmates to federal authorities for possible immigration holds under a program called Secure Communities.

Brown is under pressure from immigrant-rights activists to sign the bill and from the California State Sheriffs’ Association, among others, to veto it.

J. Daniel Guzman, legal resources coordinator for Justice for Immigrants Coalition of Inland Southern California, was at Tuesday’s Sacramento rally on the Capitol steps.

John Andrews, spokesman for the Catholic Diocese of San Bernardino, said even though Secure Communities is touted as a way to take dangerous criminals off the streets, more often than not, it is minor offenders who are deported.

I do not mean to offend anyone Catholic, however the Catholic Church should they be minor or major offenders all be treated equally in the eyes of the law. Most of these low level offenders holding down down jobs are also using fake or stolen documents, nowhere in the Bible does it say ,one can relocate to another country for financial gain through the use of fraudulent documents, filling out I-9 tax forms with false information, driving cars and trucks without licenses and insurance. When the driver illegally driving causes an accident, the people who are hit become viticms, they will never be able to get restitution, for medical bills, loss of car, loss of life, etc, etc.

Amazing how a Leftist will screams “separation of church and state” at the drop of a hat unless it is a faux Catholic pimping the Progressive Fascist agenda

""Brown is under pressure from immigrant-rights activists""

It's what happens when ya leave the door and windows of your home wide open for 30+ years, welcoming in tens of millions.

Of course the millions that entered have now organized and will eventually dictate the future.

Your leaders for 10 years, told us it's too late, there are too many here now to do anything.

As the politicians line up to be their friends, handing out prizes, coupons and freebies in hopes of dollars, votes and support, all on the backs of the tax payers.

We've been had by a government more concerned with their own wealth and power, than what benefits hard working legitimate American tax payers.

prevent police from handing over detainees arrested for non-violent crimes to federal immigration officials for possible deportation.

I assume by detainees, they mean illegal aliens. Why would they want to prevent deportation of illegal aliens? Do they think the borders should just be thrown open?

If this bill passes does that mean I can also drive without a driver’s license and use fake ID?
