Glenn Beck Boycott: American Airlines In The Hotseat
WebProNews ^ | September 5, 2012 | Amanda Crum

Posted on 09/05/2012 5:36:05 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Glenn Beck isn’t known for keeping his opinions to himself, so when he’s unhappy with a service, the people in charge are going to know about it.

Beck says he was treated rudely on an American Airlines flight recently just because of who he is, and that the flight attendant refused to open his drink for him or speak politely even though that courtesy was given to every other passenger.

“My flight attendant nearly ‑‑ merely barked the word “breakfast” when he came to me,” he said on his show. “When others were politely asked if they cared for anything to eat and given the choices, I was just barked at. When he delivered a soda, he slammed it down so hard, I hesitated to even open the can for fear that it would spray all over other passengers in the cabin. By the way, the other passengers, nobody else had to open their can. He opened it and poured it for them. Never once did he look me in the eye. Never once did he offer a kind or even a neutral word to me. I had service unlike I have never had ever before in my life, and I have had rude service before. I lived in New York City. I have never had service that was specifically designed to make me feel subhuman. Oh, I had it. He put on quite a show as he fawned over the other passengers proudly and loudly performing his life story about being a former Israeli soldier and how he was so proud of the very liberal cities in America.”

Apparently the flight attendant wasn’t the first person to give Beck grief during that trip; he was also treated rudely in two different restaurants, and feels he didn’t do anything to invite those actions other than be himself. That conclusion was driven home when he realized the attendant hadn’t treated Beck’s family the same way.

“While he treated me as a subhuman, he treated my children nicely. So as I was deplaning, as he was standing next to the pilot, I said to him, “I want to sincerely thank you for not treating my children the way you treated me.” His response? “It was my pleasure. You deserved it.”

American Airlines has reached out to Beck via Twitter and says they are taking his experience very seriously, but Beck says he won’t be back.

“My family will never choose American Airlines again … if this is the kind of people that American Airlines likes to hire,” Beck said.

I flew American twice a week, every week for almost a decade.

They suck.

There is just nothing good I can say about them.

I'd have to second your statement. My first ride looked like this:

I've never been treated as anything more than a valued customer. I've certainly seen travelers treat flight crews poorly, but in my view, most people get the service they deserve...

Wow, that flight attendant should just be happy to have a job. I hope they fire him, tons are in line to greatfully take his place.

Wow, I was just explaining this to a friend of mine yesterday. “The hatred of the good for being good”. In fact, I’m going to forward this link to her. Thanks for posting. I don’t know why I didn’t think of using the lexicon.

You are special then, especially because of you ever so nice invitation.
In the olden days, the airline provided great customer service that is true, the last few years there is no customer service.
Having said that, an exception would be flying internationally, always great service.

American Airlines will not be able to fire the flight attendent who was rude to Beck. He is a homosexual and a union member which means he is untouchable. When AA goes out of business, let it be a lesson to all airlines not to hire sodomites and to fight unions tooth and nail.

Key word describing the flight attendant: “he”

I worked in a major hospital in a large city for many years. My experience was that a substantial percentage of the male nurses were of "a different persuasion".Not all,but many....very probably the majority.

I'll wager that the same is true of male stewardesses.

I thought if an airline was in bankruptcy that union contracts could be abrogated. When Frank Lorenzo was on his airline-buying binge back in the 80’s he routinely took an airline he bought into CH11 just to bust the unions.

AA is in bankruptcy...

I completely agree with you. International is typically fantastic. I was little in the last of the good ol’ days, but I remember when flying was glamorous. Now, I don’t like any airline besides SW. SW are always nice.

For the people who immediately accuse the customers of having done something, yeah, just sitting there quietly, obeying all of their millions of rules, never use electronics or anything. I didn’t notice my seat on Delta was a millimeter back. I really deserved being slapped on the back of the seat that hit my head. I have lots of other stories like that. But yeah, it must be completely my fault.

Airline hosts and hostesses used to be called stewards and stewardesses. Why did they agree to be called by the less prestigious term “flight attendant”?

“Steward” and “stewardess” implies a sense of responsibility for those in one’s care. On the other hand, “flight attendant” has the same ring as “gas station attendant.”

Glenn’s a Mormon, right?

So obviously Atty Gen Holder will file a discrimination suit on his behalf, right?

Yeah, right!

Went on an old Connie at the KC airport back in the 90’s. Luxurious, but tiny interior based on our standards.

Wait....AA tweeted Beck to apologize ?

They didn’t call his staff or send a email correspondence to resolve the issue...

I think they have a bigger problem than a jackass for a flight attendant...

In 1991 My wife & I were flying Continental Airlines to Cancun. This young male flight attendant was cutting up & joking a mile a minute. Actually entertaining.

In the seat in front of us were two elderly ladies. One asked him if he missed his family, flying all the time. He replied, “Ma’am, I’m not married!”

She pointed to the wedding band on his left hand. He said,

“Oh, that’s my `fag deflector’!” In the shocked silence that followed he explained, “There are a lot of fags in the airline industry. This helps keep me safe.”

Anyway, Glenn is up against the Gaystapo. A/A’s higher ups are too, and completely PW’d, IMO. Or is that FW’d?

Didn’t Lockheed spend millions fixing that problem? Since those first crashes due to fatigue and whirl mode Electras have had an exemplary safety record and the military version, (P-3 Orion), is still in service.

Ever read Robert Serling’s, (Yep, the brother of TV’s Rod), book on the crashes and how they solved the mystery, “The Electra Story”?
