Obama's State Department Knew Terrorists Had Attacked In Libya

I can't help but wonder how fast and furious the investigation into the coverup of the attacks in Libya would be, if the current President of the United States happened to be a Republican. Okay, so Mitt Romney chose not to go into the weeds of Libya and rightfully so. That doesn't mean the rest of us can't wonder what President Barack Obama and his administration knew about the attacks and when they knew it. They have insisted on trying to cover up this information and have even resorted to outright lies about what the President said and when they first called the attacks acts of terror. They have refused to admit any of this, which makes the newest information even more damming.

According to several news reports, among them Fox News, Reuters, and CBS, the State Department had information, discovered in internal emails, that the attacks were the work of terrorists. They may not want to admit the truth and they may continue to hide what they knew from the American people, but the evidence continues to mount. The Obama administration was much more aware of what really happened in Libya, much earlier than they first revealed. There is no other conclusion to come to.

(Fox News) A series of internal State Department emails obtained by Fox News shows some of the initial assessments of last month's deadly consulate attack in Libya, including one email within hours of the attack that noted the group Ansar al Sharia had claimed responsibility.

The emails provide some of the most detailed information to surface about what officials knew in the initial hours after the attack. And it again raises questions about why U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Susan Rice, apparently based on intelligence assessments, would claim five days after the attack that it was a 'spontaneous' reaction to protests over an anti-Islam film.

Ansar al Sharia has been declared by the State Department to be an Al Qaeda-affiliated group. A member of the group suspected of participating in the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi has been arrested and is being held in Tunisia.

The emails obtained by Fox News were sent by the State Department to a variety of national security platforms, whose addresses have been redacted, including the White House Situation Room, the Pentagon, the FBI and the Director of National Intelligence.

Fox News was told that an estimated 300 to 400 national security figures received these emails in real time almost as the raid was playing out and concluding. People who received these emails work directly under the nation’s top national security, military and diplomatic officials, Fox News was told.

The timestamps on the emails are all Eastern Time and often include the subheading SBU…which is shorthand for “Sensitive But Unclassified.”

The third email came at 6:07 p.m. ET and was sent to a different email list but still includes the White House Situation Room address and a subject line of “Update 2: Ansar al-Sharia Claims Responsibility for Benghazi Attack (SBU).”

“Embassy Tripoli reports the group claimed responsibility on Facebook and Twitter and has called for an attack on Embassy Tripoli," the email reads.

I honestly can not understand the reasoning of the Obama administration. Were they so naive that they believed they could keep this hidden and not allow the American people to discover what really happened in Libya? Did they really believe they could keep us from knowing they were aware of the terrorist base of the attacks? If so, what purpose did their deceit serve? As I have mentioned many times, I realize there are certain national security items that the public does not need to know. For security reasons, it is best these items of interest remain classified. The incident in Libya does not fall under that description, in my opinion.

The only purpose I can see the Obama administration had in mind can be summed up in one word. Reelection! For weeks and months, the President has touted his foreign policy successes. Didn't we realize he killed bin Laden and al Qaeda was on the run? If we didn't know that, we were sure to be informed by the propaganda being published by the committee to reelect Barack Obama. As we can see from the information that is becoming available, those statements are more than a little untrue. Al Qaeda is anything but on the run and even though bin Laden is dead, other leaders have risen to take his place.

Even now, with more and more evidence coming to light, the Obama administration refuses to admit the truth. Here's how Allahpundit describes it.

(Hot Air) If I understand the White House’s Benghazi narrative in its current form, it boils down to this. There was no protest, but the attack was still kinda sorta spontaneous insofar as it was inspired by what was happening at the embassy in Cairo. And it wasn’t an official Al Qaeda or Ansar al-Sharia operation, even though members of AQIM and Ansar al-Sharia — including the founder of the latter group — were on the scene and/or participating. Essentially, the White House wants you to believe that members of two prominent jihadist paramilitary groups were kicking around on September 11 when one of them turned on the TV, heard about the Mohammed movie from coverage of the Egyptian embassy assault, and decided to quickly pull together a complex, heavily-armed attack on the local U.S. consulate involving 20 or so people. Never mind that there had been harassment of, and attacks on, western interests in the city for months; these guys apparently had no serious designs on Chris Stevens or his compatriots until they heard about the YouTube video and hulked out in the form of an organized armed raid. The only thing that makes this story plausible is that security for Stevens at the compound was so disgracefully poor that hardened jihadis probably could have drawn up a play in the dirt outside the building and gotten to the ambassador. That’s Obama’s defense here, essentially — that the consulate was so easily breached thanks to threadbare protection for Stevens that it’s quite possible the whole thing was put together by amateurs, without planning.

Someone inside the Obama administration should wake up and realize just how foolish they are sounding. It's like they are standing in the doorway of a burning house, feeling the heat of the flames and sparks falling in their hair, yet still refusing to admit the house is on fire. How much longer will they insist on carrying on with this charade?

The more I think about this, the more I realize just how wise Mitt Romney was to not take the bait on Libya in the last debate. There is no need for him to showcase the facts and to burn the last leg of the empty chair that is holding up this presidency. His opposition is doing a fine job of that, all by themselves. How they can stand much longer is beyond me.

This is a story about a President that deliberately lied to The American people and ordered his administration to lie to the American people. The disturbing thing here is that the security briefers went to the trouble tof knowingly insert false information into intelligence reports to the President of the United States in order to make them conform to the White House’s “it’s all the video” narrative. Instead of telling the President the truth, they told the President what he wanted to hear for political convenience. The President contends that he relied on these reports to amplify his “video” narrative. As a result, the security apparatus fed him even more information supporitng this view.

In engineering, we call this a feed-back loop, where an error causes a greater error, and so forth, until the system is so far from reality, it breaks down.

If the intelligence community is feeding the President bad information, then our security policy is being dictated by the Democrat Talking Point of the Day, and we are going to be constantly doing the wrong thing.

This is a failure of leadership. The President should tell his advisers, in no uncertain terms, that he wants the clear, unvarnished truth, as near as they can determine. He should then make a big deal over firing advisers who “shine him on”, until he is convinced that everybody is doing his job.
